Lapsang, oolong, and pu-erh is not a combination I would have ever thought of! The dry sachet smells intensely of pine smoke in that lapsang way, with just a tiny bit of oolong roastiness in the undertone. The smokiness persists after steeping, which produces a very dark brew. Initially this tasted like a typical lapsang with no additives, with very forward smoke notes and a slightly sweet aftertaste. After cooling a bit, an earthiness from the pu-erh comes out, and it becomes a “chewier” tea with substantial texture. The smokiness from the lapsang isn’t really mellowed out by the pu-erh backdrop and actually becomes harsher against it. I enjoy a good lapsang, and this concept is interesting, but it’s not the most harmonious presentation.

another one from VariatTEA! that i had last night. This is a smokey tea. What’s interesting though is the blending of oolong, puerh, black tea. It was a really interesting cup last night and even the addition of a bit of maple on the back half of my cup, didn’t seem to phase the tea…it was like…yeah? maple? i can eat that and still be the same lol. Still a neat experience :) thanks VariaTEA!

Blind reaching for a teabag gets me this. When I opened the packet I smelt smoke but I thought it was just the vog since last night was super smoky too – I was not expecting this taste. I had to look this one up in the booklet since it’s not in the database that I could find. It’s a cool tea, smoky but not too much and smooth. Not a horrible disappointment but I don’t like smokey teas so much so nope, not gonna get this.
