A sample from Dustin! Thank you. :)

This smells like sweet banana candy. There’s weirdly not much chocolate in there as well. I steeped a bit short and cool, because I was making an oolong at the same time. Unfortunately, the tea is really thin. I like the flavour, it’s nice that the banana is stronger than the chocolate. But the texture just isn’t doing it for me.

Are all these puerhs and oolongs ruining me for regular black tea? GASP. I hope not.

Fjellrev

Banana candy oddly sounds really good to me even though I’m sure this must taste artificial haha.

OMGsrsly

I actually quite liked the banana flavour. It was sweet and fresh.

OMGsrsly

I think I’d prefer a banana oolong, though. Like melon oolong. :D The texture of the oolong is just… IDK, I think it would go better with the banana flavour they use.

Fjellrev

I never tried David’s rendition but I like the idea of banana in oolong too!

OMGsrsly

David’s rendition was Before My Time. :)

rosebudmelissa

Is there a banana oolong out there? That does sound good. For that matter, are there many banana flavored teas?

Had this one earlier today, after I ate dinner.
And I wish I had drank it before eating because in the middle of the cup, once again I got nauseous and couldn’t finish it! Luckily, this tea I have more than a tsp of so I can try it again whenever! :D
But I gathered this much from the third of the tea I drank:
The banana was not subtle at all. It was pretty in your face.
The chocolate added a certain bitterness to it. It might have just been the black tea base that I was tasting, but it definitely tasted kinda bitter.
It more of tasted like a dark chocolate covered banana, since it’s kinda bitter.
But I steeped it for three minutes, so maybe if I steep it for a shorter time it will be less bitter.
So yeah! It’s a really really good tea, and I will definitely enjoy drinking more of this! :D

My first impression when I opened up my bag of this tea was that it smelled like fake bananas/banana medicine. Bleh. I think I had been hoping more for a banana split sort of flavour. Thankfully, it’s not quite so potent once brewed, and the banana mellows enough to taste more like a real (though quite ripe) banana – but I can’t really taste any chocolate whatsoever, so it ends up tasting like a fairly basic banana black. Not really my thing. Oh well – it’s not a bad tea per se, since it’s still pretty smooth, but it’s not what I was hoping for.

The lovely NayLynn sent me a swap package full of awesome-sounding flavored teas, most of which were on my wishlist. Woohoo! This one is the first to try just because it sounds tasty and the whole package smelling like banana made me want some. I’ve had good experiences with Lupicia’s teas so far, and I’m always on the lookout for them in swaps. The leaves of this tea are small and somewhat broken, and there are a few yellow flower petals mixed in with them. Dry scent is sugary banana taffy mixed with a bit of creamy milk chocolate. I brewed a heaping teaspoon of leaf for 3 minutes at 200 degrees.

The brewed aroma is still sweet banana taffy, but now it’s joined by malt. There is still a tad of milk chocolate scent present as well. I tried it plain first and there is a decent amount of banana flavor. Then I added some soy milk and agave and it’s amazing… So much creamy banana, similar to banana pudding. There’s a little bit of chocolate I suppose, but it’s very easy to overlook. Overall, decent plain, super yummy with milk! :D

After having a chocolate covered banana in Orange County, CA, I now have to try banana chocolate tea whenever i see it. This is a very smooth tea. Its lightly flavored, but you can still taste the essence of both flavors. The other versions of this tea have used rooibos and they are good but I’m liking the use of the black tea more. This is a sample in the Pass the stash ttb so I can’t quite get a good smell from this sample but i imagine it would smell good.

Like drinking tea with a banana laffy taffy in your mouth. I don’t pickup on the chocolate, ok by me cause I don’t like a lot of chocolate teas.

This is my second Lupicia tea ever. The first was a pyramid package from Sil, I think it might have been called Paradise Green. While it was good I didn’t feel overly compelled to jump and place an order.

This here, along with a few others deliciously named (including the famous melon oolong that everyone is raving about) came by way of my very own tea fairy. Yes, TheTeaFairy. And I am sure she won’t mind if I call her my own. Things have been a little rough here for the past 6 weeks, the kind of rough that makes you wonder who you pissed off up there, and my loving fairy sent me a deliciously smelling box of tea goodies. “Sunshine when life is pouring on you” she says. I think I must have starved myself tea-wise because I fell upon these like a wild animal.

I love the smell of this both dry leaf and the brewed tea. It smells sugary and chocolate. Tastes more like banana than chocolate but yum! This is dangerous. Thank you, thank you, thank you, TheTeaFairy !

PS. I probably shouldn’t sit here at this table where they all are, enticing me. Has anyone drank an entire swap box in one day? Not all the quantity of course but tried each and every one? Just curious.

Aww, you just made my day, you have no idea :-)
To answer you question, every time I get new tea, I make an attempt at trying them all the same day but I fail cause there are usually way to many!!
(Sorry you had to type TheTeaFairy so many times on the iPad, lol)

Nxtdoor

Lol. I curse a little bit each time I have to type the whole thing. Really.

How bout TTF?

Interesting tea. Banana is the dominant note, but to me that was in a good way. It didn’t have a very artificial taste to it, and though it was dominant it wasn’t overpowering. Didn’t get a big chocolate kick, but it was a pleasant black tea with lacing of banana.

Had with cream and a little rock sugar.

Thank you Dustin for sharing this with me. This has a great banana flavor. In fact, it is actually satisfying my craving for 52 Teas Banana Pudding Black Tea. However, it is even better because it has what tastes like a rich chocolate drizzle, just enough that it is noticeable without overpowering the banana flavor. So good!

ifjuly

i love this one, it’s what convinced me banana in tea can be good not gross, hee.

VariaTEA

I can see why. It really is awesome.

keychange

I’m waiting for my package from nay lynn to get here so I can savagely break into this!! skdjflkdsjflsjf!

VariaTEA

keychange, I actually thought of you the whole time I was drinking this. If you have not tried it yet, you are in for a treat. And if you have tried it, than you are still in for a treat,

Yes? Yes. This is a really great tea. It has ‘real’ banana flavours and just a little bit of chocolate flavoring on top of it. It really makes me think of the chocolate covered banana chips I buy from the bulk store. DELICIOUS.

I wonder how well Lupicia teas re-steep? I’ll have to find out.

Anna

They’re not overly resteepable, in my opinion – I feel it’s the same tea, but weaker and with less complexity, overall.

TeaLady441

Good to know especially since you’re such a big fan. I wish they offered shipping to Canada though.

TeaLady441

Also, my resteep was super weak, like you predicted.

Anna

It’s pretty good for me, though – I’m not big on resteeping, and I sort of feel, ‘Okay, done with this, moving on,’ like the leaf is spent and that’s it. So those oolongs and whatnot that you can resteep forever always come off as very daunting to me. Because what if I don’t have time, or feel like another cup?

VariaTEA

Anna, I am with you. I am not one for the resteeps. Mostly because I like to have a billion flavors a day. Sometimes I feel wasteful but other times I realize I have soo much tea that if I always resteeped, I would never get to a lot of my teas before they went bad and that would be even more wasteful. (and yes, I am aware my logic doesn’t really make all that much sense but shhhh because it comforts me :P)

TeaLady441

Yeah, I totally get that. I hate feeling pressured to resteep fancy teas, and feeling guilty for ‘wasting’. I do appreciate those teas when I’m in the mood but even then 3 is the most I resteep. My cups are 12-16oz, so that seems reasonable. How much of one tea can you drink?

TeaLady441

Anna – where do you get Lupicia teas from? I saw that you live in Italy and I know the US store doesn’t ship internationally… Do you just rely on connections? Or do they have other online stores?

Sil

how much of one tea can you drink….looootsssssss ;)

TeaLady441

In one sitting??? Ha. Maybe for you, but I can’t do it. I can set it aside for the next day…

Sil

so many things i want to drink….and yet there’s a giant box of samples taunting me…. TAUNTING ME!

VariaTEA

I think my cupboard is mostly samples too and there are drinks I want to have but can’t help but feel like I should be drinking the swap teas first.

TeaLady441

Yeah, I’m mostly focusing on samples. If I have teas that are sealed, I don’t want to break the seal yet, even though I’m really excited about my sealed Nina’s or Lupicia.

OMGsrsly

I still haven’t opened my Mandala order from black friday. :( :(

VariaTEA

I always plan to keep teas sealed but then that doesn’t always work out.

Dustin

I have to open all the teas when they arrive so I can smell them all and decide which to try first.
I have a hard time with the resteep 6x teas too. I just get bored and it feels like it goes on forever.

TeaLady441

Oh, Mandala. Damn, you just reminded me how I miss Special Dark!
