From Lupicia

Green tea version of SAKURAMBO, one of our most popular flavors. The fresh cherry flavor makes this quality Japanese tea even more appealing. Excellent as iced tea.

One of my favorite teas. It’s very green and fresh tasting. I don’t get an overpowering blast of heavy cherries, more like a light fruity breeze. Perfect for iced tea.

I will have to try this one :)

Sipdown! (34 | 70)

Love this one. I find the flavor slightly difficult to explain. It is sort of cherry-ish, but in a tart dried cherry sort of way rather than a sweet, ripe one. And I guess it must be the rosemary that adds a lovely savory, herbaceous note. The sencha base is nice quality, with darker and more slender leaves than some of their other flavored greens.

I’m not sure whether I like the green or black version better, luckily I have one more packet of both. I’ll have to do a side-by-side tasting to determine which one I want to continue ordering…

Yeah… I love Lupicia, at least what I’ve tried from them so far and this was just a miss. I had it hot last night and didn’t enjoy it and now I’m having it cold brewed and I think it made it worse. My mom likes it so I’m going to can the cold brew for her but… I don’t know. I think the combination of peppercorns and the fruit is what hit me weirdly, I love rosemary so it wasn’t that it just tasted like soap and not in a good way like the Bertie Botts Jelly Belly.

Ha ha I love this one! :P It’s very hit-or-miss for people in general.

I know, I’m sorry! Usually we have similar tastes but maybe I brewed it wrong, I have to try it again later.

Cameron B.

Ha ha don’t be sorry! It’s not a bad thing that people have different tastes. :P

First tea of the new year!

More of an exploratory tea than a favorite tea. My tea resolution is to save my tea budget this year for enjoying tea in japan on our eventual vacation.

I might be on steepster less come late february as we are planning on getting a puppy and i imagine writing tea reviews may get forgotten.

Preparation: Western
Tasting note: I am used to green tea instructions saying to never boil green tea so I ended up putting it at 90C instead. I get a little grassiness and a floral cherriness. It does sort of have that medicinal cherry going on but not overly sugar, which i prefer. I am liking it as it cools down but I don’t think I love the combo.

This tastes more like a white nectarine than cherry to me. Not disappointed in the least by that.

Finished off the rest of this as a cold brew. I think I’m finally getting the hang of it! This was a pleasant tasting cold brew and very convenient for a grab-and-go tea. The cherry is balanced and not as strong when prepared this way.

I don’t like this one as much as the black tea version. Honestly, the green tea kills it. It’s me not liking green tea, not that the tea is bad. I also think that the flavor overwhelms the tea.

For years I’ve had the decaf black version of this tea and I have to say, the green tastes pretty much the same. The sour cherry flavor is so rich that I can’t pick out the tea base and I think that is true with the black version as well. I must have picked up this sample tea bag a couple months ago when I was last in a Lupica store and I’m super glad I have it when I’m on the go and at work! Thanks Lupicia! I might consider swapping the black for the green next time I need a refill on my loose leaf stash.

I loved their grapefruit green so I had a feeling I’d like this one too. The cherry isn’t medicinal tasting and more importantly, it’s tart. The way I prefer cherries. Yum! It’s really good hot or iced.

I should buy another one… Oh man. #HoardCity

Yassss #hoardcity! I ordered two packets of this because I like the black version so much. ;)

haha Cameron. Yeah, I think if I don’t, I’ll dread the way I’ll feel on the “last cup”. I’ll probably order it lol.

Cameron B.

To be fair, this is one that you could almost certainly order from Honolulu if it comes to that.

Good to know! Ty :)

As a category, cherry green teas are in my personal pantheon of flavored greens. Jasmine will probably always and forever be no. 1, and I like a good grapefruit green, too. But it’s really a toss up where cherry fits in. I want to say second, but I worry that the minute I say that something will change my mind. Let’s say top 3-ish?

This one has a strong, medicinal cherry smell in the tin, but after steeping it is much mellower and more subtle. The tea is pale yellow and clear, with a tinge of green.

I was a little worried because someone else compared this to Kotobuki, which I didn’t care for. But I like how this tastes. In any case, I like it better than the Kotobuki.

I’ve had some cherry green teas that were sweeter, and I think on balance I prefer a little more sweetness. But there’s a place for a cherry that’s not really sweet but still captures the essence of cherry. I don’t find this tart or bitter at all. Just not sweet.

Which makes it interesting. As we head in to winter, I don’t think this is the best seasonal choice - it’s spring-like and refreshing - but if I don’t run out of green tea before spring I’ll try to hold onto it until then when it will hit the spot.
