Playstation Network, what have I ever done to deserve this?! I’m just minding my own business, trying to watch some late night Netflix, but no, Sony is determined to ruin my evening. Well, Sony, I have delicious tea so you can’t ruin it! Take that!

Ahem… anyway, I’m a huge huge fan of Lupicia’s Chestnut Green so when I saw that tattooed_tea was swapping this I just had to have it. Chestnut seems like kind of an elusive tea flavor, so I will hoard all the different kinds like a squirrel waiting for spring. You know, a squirrel who actually drinks all her nuts before spring comes because they’re so delicious…

This has the same sweet, nutty taste as Chestnut Green. The candied chestnut flavor is just so perfectly captured, there’s no mistaking it for anything else! There are strong notes of caramel and spun sugar, backed up by the black base which is surprisingly strong. I haven’t tried many of Lupicia’s black teas, but they seem to share rather robust bases!

I don’t think I like this quite as much as Chestnut Green, which is ever so slightly superior in terms of the base, but it’s still absolutely fantastic! Plus I can be really indulgent with this one and add a nice splash of creamy milk.

I wish I was able to drink all my nuts before spring comes…. :(

Alphakitty

I think I am going to go on a tea binge in March and call it spring cleaning, I really do have too many “nuts” around

oh booo after reading everyones reviews I feel let down. I mist have done something wrong with this one. but here goes my pre-written review.

I’m not sure I’m going to like this one. I can’t quite describe what the dry notes smell like. they’re different. Perhaps a little nutty, but mostly off putting.
As it’s steeping it smells like when something was on your stove element and is now burning.

Wow! I am just having a rough morning with tea so far. this is my third and so far I haven’t been able to finish a mug. I don’t think this is going to be a cup that I can get through.
I guess it tastes like chestnuts, perhaps they aren’t a nut I’m familiar with or not one that I enjoy. at the very end of the sip I do get a nutty flavour but there is too much before that flavour for me to enjoy this.

Will Work For Tea

I feel the same way about this one too. I was excited to try it, and it was a huge let-down. :(

Well, looks like I need some. :)

TeaBrat

I hope they have it at the SF Lupicia store. :)

LiberTEAS

I love this tea. One of Lupicia’s best, in my opinion (although, I still love their Earl Grey even more)

Stephanie

@Amy oh You know I’ve haven’t been to the SF store, yet? I always mean to but seem to always forget, when I’m in that mall. I hope they have this there!
@RachanaC Yes this is a must have!! :)
@LiberTEAS Which of their Earl Grey is your fave?

Another chestnut tea from Lupicia – last time I tried Chestnut Green and here’s the black tea version! The chestnut flavour seems to be different in the two teas. It’s sweeter in Chestnut Green, kinda tastes like marron glacé. In Chaud Les Marrons!, the chestnut has a strong roasted, almost smoky, flavour. The black tea base also makes everything taste richer and heavier. I certainly like the green tea version more, though I think a bit of milk would make Chaud Les Marrons! pretty awesome ;)

Sipdown 116/395

Chosen by the boyfriend, who raved about it and said that it tasted chocolatey (??). I remember getting this a couple of years ago and really enjoying it, then saving the last of my sample to savour it, and we all know that that means leaving it for two or three years while I acquire hundreds of other teas and it loses flavour. It also didn’t help that I didn’t really have enough leaf left for a pot for two, but I’m encouraging Ryan to get more into tea so I wasn’t going to say no. What kind of monster would do that to a fledgling tea enthusiast? I was disappointed that it was a shadow of the tea I remembered, but enjoyed the pot nonetheless. I do love chestnut teas, it’s one of my favourite flavours.

Sample from my swap with WhatSheSaid.

Couldn’t resist and cracked this one open at breakfast with my porridge, mmm. Not as sweet as its dry scent but I reckon just a tiny bit of sugar would explode that dry sweetness like whoa. Nevertheless it was beautiful and I’m glad I got it, no thanks to Steepster for making me add it to my shopping list though!

Another sipdown. Goodbye, Chaud Les Marrons! You were delicious! Wonder if we’ll ever meet again – I’ll have to keep an eye on the Lupicia website in case you return.

I had this a few days back when my friend was still visiting and though I didn’t get a chance to log it then, I do remember not liking it very much. I passed on my sample to Kittenna because I just found it too heavy to even finish the cup.

Kittenna

Haven’t written my tasting note for it yet, but mmmmmm thank you – it was just as I remembered, and tasted just like chestnuts, and it was pretty wonderful.

VariaTEA

Yay! I am glad you are enjoying it because I certainly didn’t.

I never reviewed this either! EGADS!

This is my last backlog for tonight. I’m hungry, borderline hangry.

Sorry for the flood in your newsfeed. Or whatever Steepster calls it.

I have never had a roasted chestnut in my life, but being a huge lover of Christmas I’ve always been intrigued by the concept, and “chestnuts roasting on an open fire” always sounded like perfect heaven to me. So warm and cozy.

That said, there is something odd about this. I debated between this one and the chocolate one, and went with this. So i could taste the chestnuts on their own.

It’s enjoyable… but I wouldn’t rebuy. I can’t help but wonder if the idea of roasted chestnuts would probably be better than the reality for me – it’s still something I’d like to try someday though!

Perhaps I’d appreciate the tea more if i were able to compare it to the real thing.

Dustin

How strange… the description for Joyeux Noel is the same. Roasted chestuts on the streets of Paris. Do they have two names for the same tea?! I haven’t tried JN yet, it just arrived in my last order, but I have tried their chocolate chestnut and it was okay. What I like better than that is their chestnut green. The two work really well together.

ohfancythat

I didn’t know they had a green!

Dustin

Yup. It’s just called “Chestnut”. Every time I talk about it I want a cup but I’d be up all night if I had some now!

Got a sample of this tea from Christina!
Think I oversteeped it a wee bit because I was talking to my mum. Didn’t seem bitter though, so that’s good!
This one isn’t too strong, it’s pretty light.
Definitely tastes like roasted chestnuts…well…more like roasted sweet chestnuts. Because it has a certain sweetness to it. Not my favorite tea, and wouldn’t buy it ever, but glad I sampled it! Thanks so much for the sample. Christina! :D
