From Liquid Proust Teas

6/7/2015 : This tea failed my test and therefore a batch will not be made.
Inspired by the desire to have a watermelon taste accompanied by floral accents and a buttery texture.

Green TGY from China and gyokuro buds from Japan infused with melon. There may unfiltered fruit left in the blend.
We have such numerous interests in our lives that it is not uncommon, on a single occasion, for the foundations of a happiness that does not yet exist to be laid down alongside the intensification of a grief from which we are still suffering.” Swann’s Way

I was probably the most apprehensive of this one out of the three, see I have a lifetime hate of watermelon…until about a year ago I ate some and surprisingly loved it, next thing I knew I was devouring slices of watermelon like it was going out of style. The aroma of this tea is pretty peculiar, mixing heady flowers with fresh vegetation, a bit of umami kelp, and delicate watermelon. Like someone is sitting next to you eating watermelon while you are sitting sipping your tea, it does not overwhelm at all, also props for it smelling like the melon and not candy.

I brewed this one in my gaiwan, got several steeps out of it too! The mouthfeel was delightfully creamy and smooth, and the taste was something else. It took the familiar sweet and floral notes of a green TGY and mix it with bright green notes of celery and lettuce, with a hint of buttery and green seaweed note. But where is the watermelon you might ask? Oh it is there, it blooms in the midtaste as a delicate, juicy, watermelon with an accompaniment of the green rind. It does not evolve much over steeps except the buttery Gyokuro notes became stronger, which I loved.

Come on now… this tea was like sugared Hulk armpit hair.
I will come back to it one day and bring it justice.

I can’t wait to try this blend and the others tomorrow.

Sugared Hulk armpit hair? Really, what does that taste like? Ha ha

This was pleasant, but not my favorite. I love watermelon flavors in tea, alongside other melon, and the TGY was very mild, but I found it all to be a bit too mild for my general taste.

As my first blend I was probably too ambitious in regards to my abilities. I finished my last trial with this tea and drank the final product that is going out in sample sizes . This was a good first experience; I created a tea that isn’t great but also isn’t terrible. I will probably come back to this blend when I start to work with flavoring and oils rather than blending and balancing.

I love reading about your blending! So fun!

have to start somewhere! :)

Liquid Proust

It is fun :)
I decided that I wont give them ratings but I will be as harsh as I would be with other teas. I am pretty sure that my Grapefruit Coffee Yunnan Gold will be nasty to my tongue but my bestfriend will probably love it.

Sil

mmm grapefruit coffe….

Nichole/CuppaGeek

I have had flavored grapefruit coffee before and it was delicious. Yum!

Liquid Proust

Sounds so nasty to me… I’ll be using Yunnan gold tea in it so it better be decent. It should pair well with the coffee, even though I dislike coffee.
