From Life In Teacup

Production Year: 2013
Production Season: April 4, 2013
Production Region: Anhui Province
Style: Hong Qing (Roasted)

This tea is named after the mountain where it is produced.

Why we carry this tea: A great tea similar to Huang Shan Mao Feng while having its own unique characters. We are proud of being one of the few vendors outside southeastern China that carry this tea, and probably still the only vendor offering this tea out of China.

Description from the Life In Teacup Jan. 2012 blog entry: This tea is from an area right next to the producing region of Huang Shan Mao Feng. The appearance of this tea is quite similar to Huang Shan Mao Feng too, due to the similar processing techniques used. But this tea has a lot of nice nuances, floral, herbal, incense, and something subtle and mysterious.

Just before Christmas, I received a wonderful surprise in the mail…goodies from K S! In all the hubbub and getting decorations up and then down and then having the wedding, I didn’t get started on them. But hubby suggested we do yoga together tonight and I thought this one looked like a prime candidate to sip between sets and after cool down.

The first pot was a combination of four steeps made by youngest. I had given her a short steeping time because I thought it smelled like it could get strong, but instead this was cool, clean, clear snow melt, with a hint of baby sugar snap peas. We drank all of that and wanted more, so I took the remainder of the sample and made four more steeps. I gave it a little more time and now it is a little more assertive, more like green bean hulls. I wouldn’t have noticed the light smoke if I hadn’t read about it, but as I swirl air around in my mouth I pick up on it.

Thank you, K S! This was a perfect tea for relaxing tonight. Lovely!

Glad you enjoyed it.

I love this tea. I ordered together with other spring greens and found that life in teacup has some really good greens.

Had this one a few days ago. Steeped it is almost colorless until it cools. The taste is similar to Haung Shan Moa Feng but far less assertive. This is a quiet but deep green tea. Life in Teacup believes they are the only vendors to offer this outside of China. That in itself peaks my curiosity.

Brewed in my Finum, traditional green tea temps. Surprising viscosity is the first impression. Wonderful mouthfeel and light tender smokiness. Not a fan usually of anything smokey, on the contrary I’m into this. Lovely pale yellow/green color to the liquor. Sweet undertones that progressively reveal from steep to steep and linger on the palate, along with an intriguing tingle of astringency that carries through to the end. I extended brewing time for each infusion until later, with cooler water, I was letting it sit a good solid 2 mins. Got at least five 5oz cups with half my sample pack.

Another win from the 2013 Green Tea Sample Packs from Life In Teacup!
