Sipdown (212/215)!

I made this up as a cold brew. Honestly, it’s alright but it wasn’t great either and I think I actually preferred it hot. Passion Fruit seemed like it’d work well as a cold brew flavour, though.

In total the brewing time for this one was four hours. I didn’t want to over do it and risk the already somewhat artificial/chemical taste of this blend becoming too strong/prominent.

Thanks again VariaTEA for the sample – it wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be, and I got to try my first Kusmi blend as well.

Preparation
Iced 8 min or more 20 OZ / 591 ML

There are better Kusmi blends out there but I am glad this was drinkable. It certainly was not something I was ever going to drink.

I was actually drinking this last night. Thanks VariaTEA for sending me this sample.
It was ok. It’s a fruity white, I’m into that. I don’t think I liked the white base thought. Not quite sure what it was, not really bitter, just strong (that’s a strange word for a white tea). Not sure what it was. I’ve had better fruit white teas.
Thanks VariaTEA – always enjoy trying new teas and I didn’t hate it as bad as you did. :))

VariaTEA

This is going to sound really weird but the white base was almost like deoderant. As in the chemically dry alcohol taste of gel deoderant.

Dexter

LOL deodorant? That’s a new one, I’ve heard soapy and chemical but not deodorant.
That’s not quite what I would say, but yes – didn’t really like the white base..

MissB

Ew… :)

ifjuly

yeah wow, that does not make me want to try this VariaTEA! haha.

VariaTEA

haha well if you ever change your mind, there is about 60 g I am looking to get rid of. It smelled so good too but it was just bad.

Roswell Strange

I’m a tad hesitant to try it now ;P

VariaTEA

I think I sneak some into every package I send in hopes of (a) finding someone who likes it and (b) slowly widdling down my stash of it.

Dexter

LOL it’s not THAT bad – 60 might have been a hair generous, but I’ve drank MUCH MUCH worse.
Don’t be afraid Roswell, you’ll be ok – don’t overleaf and don’t oversteep – that’s the best advice I have.

This is the first white tea from Kusmi that I have tried and I think it might be the last. This tea both dry and brewed smells just like passion fruit and I was hoping it would taste like it smells. Unfortunately that is not the case. I find the tea almost has a bitter chemical taste to it that is obviously not very appealing. Now I have 75g of this that is going into the swap box. Sorry Kusmi, but this one is just not very good.

Dexter

Even with that glowing recommendation, I’d be willing to take a little of that off your hands….

VariaTEA

haha sure. How much would you like? I also picked up a couple other Kusmi teas (they have a 75 g min purchase so I have a lot) and Teavana teas if you want to try them.

Dexter

LOL I dont want lots, just a taste. Will work something out. :))

Nxtdoor

I also only had one kusmi tea and was not inclined to further my kusmi education.

VariaTEA

Well if you change your mind nxtdoor I can send some samples your way. For me this was a bust but there are others which have not been bad

VariaTEA

And Dexter, check through my cupboard if you like and let me know what you would want samples of and I can probably send them your way.

Hmm. Bitter vegetal seaweed and green beans that smells SO divine.

Sadly that flavour is a big big no.

Sorry, VariaTEA, but this one isn’t for me at all.

(Maybe a shorter steep? Dare I try?)

That’s okay. It really doesn’t seem to be for anyone.

VariaTEA

The search for someone who likes this tea continues and I am sorry it was so bad.

OMGsrsly

Haha. It was an experience, all right! And I’ve had worse, so no worries. :) I’m accomplishing the Try All The Teas mission.

Another one from VariaTEA! This smells very fruity, but maybe more like fresh apricots than passion fruit. Despite that the smell is incredible. It’s one of my favorite-smelling fruit teas so far.

I was afraid of this one once I saw the reviews, but it turns out I had no reason to be! This is only slightly bitter at first before changing to the aftertaste. It’s light, fruity and nearly floral. I’ve only had one other Kusmi tea (the Rose Green), but this has a similar sweet kick at the end that I love. It’s like pure sugar. This is also pretty close to actual passion fruit flavor, managing to be both tart and sweet. I like Kusmi’s style so far, which is hard to describe but it’s very different from other companies. Their teas are really dynamic and seem to change with every sip. I’m glad I took a chance on this!

I am so glad you liked this one. I certainly would never have enjoyed this like you have.

bluebelle

It looks like no one else did, either! It’s interesting to see how people react differently to taste, haha.

VariaTEA

That’s what makes swaps worthwhile
