As promised, a black tea flavored with passion fruit. I don’t think I care for passion fruit flavored teas, at least not this one. It’s not bad, I just don’t have the desire to reach for it when I have 20+ teas that are much better.

The dry leaves have a strong, acidic and tropical passion fruit smell. So strong that it almost hurts my nostrils for some reason. The passion fruit smell in this tea comes across to me as being kind of floral, almost like ylang-ylang or something, which I don’t really like.

The steeped tea has a strong and acidic passion fruit smell too, but obviously not as strong as the dry leaves. The floral smell I don’t really care for is still here.

In the mouth, you get a strong passion fruit flavor first and foremost, along with that floral note, once again. The tea itself is medium-bodied, but for some reason it brews to a lighter brown than most of my other black teas from Harney & Sons.

I don’t have much else to say about this tea. It’s a black tea flavored with passion fruit that comes across to me as being floral which I don’t particularly like. It’s not necessarily bad but not really that good either.

I also didn’t love this, especially after I tried a better one. I guess I don’t have a need for passion fruit tea on shelf, and if I recall correctly it was one from American Tea Room or Capitol Teas that had truly lip smacking flavor.

Thanks for your comment, ashmanra! I am sorry not to reply in a timely manner. This is the only passion fruit flavored tea I have tasted and as you can tell, it isn’t my favorite. I don’t think tropical fruit flavored teas are among my favorites in general. I prefer stonefruits, berries and citrus fruits when it comes to fruit flavors. I do, however, absolutely love Harney & Sons Caribe which is flavored with guava. I will post a review soon.

My daughter LOVES Caribe! I look forward to your review!

While dry, the passionfruit aroma is pretty strong. It is a bit more more mellow when brewed. The flavour is nicely fruity/ tropical. (Goes well with papaya.)

Will have to try iced.

This doesn’t taste like passion fruit! It tastes like a combination of muscat and apple gummies with a little flatness in there. Not what I was expecting or hoping for at all. H&S is really striking out with me!

I thought American Tea Room’s was much better. Much.

Dustin

I’ll have to give that one a go sometime!

I have a mounting addiction to passion flavored teas (something about rose hips…) and I decided to buy a 50 bag box of this tea. Little did I know, it was a black tea, and I’m still warming up to black teas. I tried quite a few times doing the normal brewing routine, but I just didn’t enjoy it. HOWEVER, today I decided to cold brew a few bags and give it another chance. Boy was that a good idea! The fruity flavors really came out and it was delightful and refreshing! I think this might become a summer time favorite- and I won’t have to worry about going through all 50 bags!!

I ordered a sample of this months ago and just now got around to trying it… and I’m glad I did! I have been a fan of every Harney fruit tea I have tried thus far aside from apricot, my favorite being black currant, and this is similar but different.

The dry leaf smells intensely of passion fruit, but the taste of the tea doesn’t reflect that strong scent. Instead, it’s a rich black tea with a vert slightly tangy and ambiguously fruity flavor. Passion fruit? I suppose, though I would not have guessed that in a blind taste test. It’s a summery, fruity tea that is very enjoyable plain and hot; I imagine it might be even better iced, and will have to give that a try.

This tea is too sweet for my taste buds, and I am usually a huge fan of flavored black teas. If I have to drink this, I prefer it as iced tea.

I tend to drink a lot of black tea, and when I was craving something with a fruity flavor, this tea was perfectly flavored while still maintaining the boldness of a rich black tea. The flavor really came alive when I added a little honey.
