Mmmm…flowers. ::drools a la Homer Simpson::

This was my 2nd GM sample and I was super-excited about trying this one. I’ve only had Stash’s White Rose and I wanted something to compare it to. So when I say things like “a lot more than WR” that’s the tea I’m using for comparison.

So, I popped open the packet and the smell was a nice bouquet of roses. It was a lot less cloying than WR (but it’s also a tiny sample packet, so perhaps a larger qty. would affect the smell’s impact).

First sip: yummers! I think that black tea is so much more well-suited to being “rose-afied.” The rose smell and taste couldn’t violate this tea as much as the poor WR. Yes, it’s rose-heavy, but what can I say? I likes me a cup of frou-frou. Really no complaints on this cup and will most likely get myself some to keep on hand for my ultra-girlie days. I still feel like I have yet to find my dream rose tea.

Second Steep: I sorta forgot to set the timer, so I’m unsure of how long this steeped. When I realized my error I guessed that it had been about 2 minutes, so I set the timer for two minutes. The first couple of sips I really noticed the tea more so than the entire first cup. But as it it cooled ::Ethel Merman impersonation:: Everything’s Comin’ Up Roooooses! NE

Second sampler from Golden Moon. Used some rock sugar when steeping, like always.
Ever since I started drinking loose teas, i have never bought a black tea. So making a black tea from loose leaves just felt very odd. I am also usually not a fan of flower teas, even though they always smell so fantastic (just like this one did before I steeped it)

So here goes, first sip. Weird. I definitely taste the black tea and it tastes so good, but then the rose flavor comes out, and all I can think of is how absolutely flowery it tastes. I’m trying to resist the urge to put a splash of milk in, since I’ve become accustomed to black teas with milk. That might make the rose flavor taste worse.

It’s definitely not a bad tea. The more sips I taste the more I seem to like it, but it just still doesn’t grab me, it’s still a little hot though so my tongue is probably not catching all the flavors.

Ah yes, as it cools down the flavor definitely is more potent, and I like the tea quite a bit. The flavor of the rose petal is quite odd though making this a tea I most likely would never drink or purchase in the future.

Lovely rose scent upon opening the sample package. Scent a bit lighter in the infusion, but still a fresh rose scent with a citrus undernote (!). Tea has a tartness with a sweet finish. 2nd infusion—much lighter in aroma and flavor. Not a tea I would seek out but an interesting one to try. There is an elegance to this tea—you may want to wear a hat and gloves to partake!

Sample. Confirmed my suspicion that I do not like rose flavored anything.

I don’t like roses. But since I have this sample, I thought I would give it a shot.

Smells like roses, even small rose petals in the tea. Tastes like it smells. Tried it hot and iced. Tastes the same.

I still don’t like roses. I’m sure this is good for people who like roses. The black base doesn’t overpower the floral, perhaps tones it down some, because I can only imagine if you steeped only rose petals, it would taste different than this. If someone loved roses, I would totally recommend this to them, and gladly hand them my cup! :-)

I really love this tea and I don’t care much usually for tea blends or flavored teas. However, the rose petals in this tea really add a heady flair to this that makes me want to keep drinking it. It’s definitely a spring tea, though.

I’m having a bit of a problem with this tea. The taste is good. Not great, but good.
However, in my brain, the potent rose smell is not associated with things edible. It’s a great smell to have on my clothes, or in my room, but it’s off-putting to have that coming out of my teacup. I sort of feel like I’m drinking air freshener. Maybe if the aroma was a little less dominant, I could concentrate of the actual flavor of the tea, which is, I admit, not bad at all.

This is a sample I received from Golden Moon. My first rose tea. I finished the cup but did not desire a second. It is probably good. I just don’t care. My wife on the other hand enjoyed this tea a lot.
