Nepalese Afternoon Tea is grown at the base of Mount Everest in the remote Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal. The infused nectar of this loose leaf tea evokes serene notes of lotus, honey and fragrant sandalwood.

The leaves smell good, and my husband commented on how good my tea smelled when he came into the kitchen. I tasted it straight first and it was not at all bitter, but was a sort of assertive tasting tea. With a touch of soy cream and sweetener, it was delicious. Very nice with a blueberry scone from the grocery store bakery.
The infusion had a lovely honeyed aroma—I was intrigued. My first sip had a mild, not unpleasant astringency, but, unfortunately, the astringency grew to cheek-sucking strength as the tea cooled. Not a bad tea with food, but not a tea to drink on its own.
I haven’t had this from my Golden Moon Sample yet, do you have any suggestions for me to have a better experience? I am not too fond of strong astringency in my tea … Maybe a decrease in steeping time? I was going to suggest maybe lower temp water to start? Hmm, I am now somewhat hesitant to drink this sample!
Lauren – make it into a cold brewed iced tea – that brewing method takes away major astringency issues :) I think that is what I’m going to do w this tea and the darjeeling from the GM sampler.
I think the cold brewing idea is great. This tea is not on my reorder list, but if it is improved iced, I may reconsider—maybe another sample to try iced. The initial flavor was quite nice with the honey notes until the astringency rise. I usually like to drink a tea hot first without additives to get a sense of it; this tea was prepared as recommended by Golden Moon. This is why I love reading everyone’s logs and comments! I’ll be interested to read what you think, Lauren, after sampling—didn’t mean to strike fear into the heart of a fellow Steepster!
This is the second Nepal tea I have had, and I love it! Very rich tasting, love the mouth feel. I only drank my sample hot, but would make an excellent iced tea. I will have to put this on my shopping list. Excellent black tea, smooth as silk! It has Darjeeling like qualities, with the lovely honey smell and taste. Nom!
I was eager to try this based on the description of the notes. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any lotus, honey or sweetness from this blend; it was sort of dry, astringent and a little bitter, similar to some lower quality Darjeelings I’ve tried. It’s not a bad tea, but I don’t see myself buying this. I prefer black teas that are full bodied and rich/malty. This definitely is not. If you like more delicate and dry black teas, you may want to try this.

I’m not a fan of the bitterness that usually comes with black tea, so i steeped this on less than the full amount. There was no bitterness to the tea, but not really anything special about it. Did notice some slight honey undertones, but no sandelwood.
There’s nothing very special about the fragrance of this tea. Dry, it smelled like black tea, but it smelled really fresh. Steeped, it smelled like more of the same, with a hint of floral undertones. I didn’t get a whiff of sandalwood at all, though, or of honey. So overall, pleasant, but not amazing.
Which is why the flavour kind of bowled me over. The floral notes became more apparent and made this a really yummy, yummy cuppa. Sadly, I made the mistake of letting it cool a bit, at which point I tasted very, very slight bitterness that I didn’t like. Other than that, it was great.
Good strong black flavor, may have slightly oversteeped (5 min: the bag says 3-5 min.) because it’s a little bitter. Would be good with a little more water or shorter steep. Has a slightly fruit and honey aftertaste. Could go in the morning, too. On second steep, slightly flowery-unidentified spicy flavor, creamy and goes down smooth and mellow. Pretty good.
