From Friday Afternoon

This dark, dank, lush blend of earthy-sweet decadence is a walk on the underside in a cup. We took inspiration from ancient Greek mythology and crafted a tea to take you on a journey below. Cave-aged pu-erh black tea melds with shaved dark chocolate and black cherry flavor to form a bed of velvet darkness. Dry rooty chicory and bright pops of pomegranate light your way. The tea will brew first dark, and then darker still in its second and third infusion. Lightness returns to the cup after the third or fourth infusion and the lighter flavors grow to guide you from winter to spring flavors.

Geek Steep S39 – The Matrix

This is the tea I drank this our recording because I had just received my Friday Afternoon order that I’d placed following their break in during May.

Since this is from their podcast collection, I thought this was a fun tea to try for the first time on our podcast. The ingredients in the blend are what caught my attention here though, since I’m not super familiar with the podcast this is inspired by. My understanding is the podcast is very Greek Mythology inspired and I could see the ingredients in this blend reflecting the inspiration of the namesake really well.

The blend ultimately tasted a lot like Black Forest cake, and I really enjoyed it quite a bit!

I forgot I’d already tried this one! Hah. We got sent a sample of it, and I thought, “Oh, chocolate and pomegranate, that sounds interesting…” and tried it and went, “Wow, grenadine, no, that’s nice enough but I don’t need to own it, I should go log it.”

Nice to see that past me was in agreement with present me. Not changing the rating.

Wanted to love this tea but this first go is not what I had hoped. The puerh is really overpowering all of the other flavors which is disappointing because this tea literally smells like cherry coke and I was really hoping those aromas would translate over into the flavor profile or at least the cherry notes would punch a bit more. Will give it another go later.
