From Friday Afternoon

This darling fire demon in a teacup was inspired by Studio Ghibli’s Howl’s Moving Castle. Roasted oolong and green tea stems mingle and dance with sweetly heated spices. If you’re in need of warmth, of a kick in the pants, of a toasty friend, you’re in the right place. We like your spark!

Ingredients: Oolong tea, black tea, roasted green tea, turmeric, cinnamon, pink peppercorn, natural pine smoke

Liked it well enough to finish the packet and not feel sad that I’d bought it, but it’s not one I need to buy again. The pepper and the smoke are the strongest flavors, to the point that I couldn’t detect the turmeric and cinnamon.

Starting off the Studio sampler with this Calcifer-inspired blend.

It’s a nice enough blend, a combination of lapsang, roasted oolong, and hojicha. Nice balance of the savory smoke with the cozy toasty notes. However, I wish I was tasting more of the spices – there’s cinnamon and turmeric here and I feel like I taste neither of them. I think a bit of cinnamon sweetness would really add some nice dimension here and would offset the more savory notes well.

Ah well. Still a tasty tea, but not something I would personally order.
