From Far West Tea Traders

Flavor: Naturally sweet with smooth herbal and baked vegetal tones, hints of green tea aroma and savoriness, unexpected sweet aftertaste (not sugary) that pleasantly lingers in the mouth.

Completely WILD GROWN in Mangshi county of Dehong, China.

There are tremendous health benefits from this herbal tea! Seriously, this is my new favorite tea, perhaps of all. 100% Caffeine free but don’t let that fool you; it’s a powerful adaptogenic!!

Jiaogulan, the world’s most powerful adaptogen, helps balance the endocrine system. Studies found that Jiaogulan has double-direction, regulating, adaptogenic influence on the central nervous system. It is calming when one is overexcited and invigorating when one is fatigued.

Jiaogulan activates AMPK… It helps determine your body’s balance between energy consumption and production. In other words, stop the mood swings and lose that rundown feeling.

Jiaogulan recharges nitric oxide, increasing blood flow throughout the body.

Jiaogulan in Chinese (pronounced jee-ow-goo-lahn) / Gynostemma pentaphyllum or ‘southern ginseng’ – is considered folk medicine more than it is a TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) herb. It’s been widely used in China as folk medicine for thousands of years.

Sometimes referred to as “Southern Ginseng,” Jiaogulan contains a large quantity of saponins, also known as gypenosides. The structure of the gypenosides is very similar to the panaxosides (also known as ginsenosides) found in ginseng. There are four times as many saponins in jiaogulan as there is in ginseng! Some of those saponins are identical to the panaxosides in ginseng and some of them turn into panaxosides when taken into the body. This results in a greater number of saponins than ginseng, which may translate into a more powerful regulatory effect on a number of bodily systems; like blood pressure, the reproductive system, the digestive system, the immune system, mental functions and more.

Japanese studies have indicated that Jiaogulan has a double-direction, regulating influence, meaning it is calming when one is overexcited and stimulating when one is depressed.

Excellent to use to counteract the effects of chemotherapy.

Jiaogulan has also demonstrated anti-inflammatory activities through its many saponins. Jiaogulan also helps the body to resist depression of the immune system and other stress-related symptoms. Furthermore there are other clinical research studies, which indicate jiaogulan’s ability to reduce tumor size.

It can be much more powerful than antioxidants obtained from diet (like Vitamin C and E) or other teas in helping the body to neutralize free radicals

Jiaogulan is a perennial herbaceous vine in the squash family that has the potential to grow 20’ or more in a year.

Brewing advice:
Measure 1.5 rounded Tablespoon (approximately 3-4 grams) – 12 oz mug
Water temperature: 180 degrees
Number of infusions: 2 – 5, depending on the water temperature and brewing time you choose. Each infusion creates a unique flavor profile.

Jiaogulan is shipped to you in it’s own hermetically sealed zipper pouch.

~ People with diseases such as lupus, multiple sclerosis, and rheumatoid arthritis should avoid using Jiaogulan until more research is done.
~ Women who are pregnant should avoid Jiaogulan.
~ In studies, Jiaogulan has been shown to increase the time blood needs to clot.

Shae. I am finally getting around to trying this one. Sorry it took so long and thank you so much for letting me try from your stash! If I had walked into this tea without knowing what it was I would have called it a weird-looking oolong. It is rolled like one but the stems are quite a bit thinner and the leaves are seemingly thinner and not as thick as the Camellia Sinensis leaf. The wet smell is very vegetal and somewhat mineral. The flavor is very savory. Brothy. Reminds me of ginseng but is smoother with a touch of astringency.
