Chinese Name: Long Yan
Longan literally translates to “dragon eye” in Chinese due to its resemblance to a dragon’s eyeball when it is still in its shell. A tropical tree that is mostly native to southern China produces these berries that are often used in Chinese cuisine and desserts.
It is a prized item in Chinese medicine. As an herbal medicine, it is believed to have a relaxing effect on the body, alleviate stomachaches and help with insomnia. Longan also has a high iron content, which is thought to help improve concentration and memory.
Naturally sweet with notes of tamarind.
