From Della Terra Teas

A delicious, crispy slab of bacon covered in gooey maple syrup on a crisp, cool autumn morning. What an amazing thing that is, just as is this tea! Great for any time of day, but puts that maple and bacon flavor right onto your taste buds!

Ingredients: Rooibos, maple flavor, chocolate bits, bacon pieces, sprinkles*

Suggested brewing tips:
Serving Size: 1 level tsp./6oz serving
Water Temp: 212 degrees or to a boil
Steep Time: 2-5 minutes

Finally having a cup of this at home. I tried it at work a while ago but the water there ruined it yucky. Anyways, the dry smell is very mapley. I steeped for 4 mins, the liquor is typical rooibos color, with a slight film from the sprinkles. The flavor is not quite what I was expecting, no bacon that I can detect, the main flavor is rooibos and the aftertaste is maple with a hint of chocolate. It’s mild and cozy though, maybe there’s a bit of saltiness in it as well. It’s not bad, but not the best, I will drink it down though. Happy to have tried this one from Della terra!

This one mostly smells like Autumn Leaves – very mapley, and not much else. Unfortunately, that’s also how it tastes, which in itself isn’t bad, but considering that this is supposed to taste like something other than pure maple, it’s not what I was hoping for. Bacon teas have always failed to live up to my expectations :(

Thank you Janelle for a sample of this with your sale! I’m always up for trying a Della Terra blend. It doesn’t look like this one is on the site anymore. An autumn breakfast sounds lovely… however I’m drinking this at 11:00 PM. Rooibos in the morning? No way. I hardly want to drink it at night but no caffeine is my reasoning. The scent of this one is unappetizing but luckily the flavor is much better. There isn’t a whole lotta bacon, if any (not sure about the whole bacon tea thing anyway!) But the sweetness addictive…but I’ve had teas that tasted more like maple. Quite nice actually. There is something “breakfast” flavored here! I swear my blend didn’t have chocolate at all though (not many breakfasts have chocolate anyway). I wish Della Terra had used these maple pieces in more blends. I always forget that if I must drink rooibos, Della Terra is always acceptable. I’ll miss this odd little blend! It looks like I was only one of a few people to try this one before it disappeared (according to Steepster notes.)

I’ve had a sample pouch of this one tucked away in my stash since last autumn. It’s never been opened, so it’s still wonderfully fresh! The maple scent is sweet and distinctive, and there’s no hint of bacon at all. I have a feeling I’ve kept this one for so long out of fear of the bacon, but I wish I hadn’t now!

This was my breakfast tea on Sunday morning. I used 1 tsp of leaf, and gave it four minutes in boiling water, after which there’s a slight oily film on the surface from the sprinkles. The rooibos brewed up pretty dark, so I added a splash of milk. The scent is still mostly maple syrup, and it’s a truly delicious thing! I’m not usually a breakfast person, but I could make an exception if it smelled like this!

To taste, this is pretty much pure maple syrup. There is a tiny, tiny smokiness that’s half reminiscent of bacon, but it’s not overpowering at all. I had feared it would be, but it’s actually a lot milder than many smoked or smoky teas. It’s also sweet, so it really is putting me in mind of bacon, waffles and maple syrup. Really delicious.

Rooibos isn’t usually the tea variety I’d choose for a morning cup, but I have to admit that it works well here. The slight woodiness fits with the sweet/smoky combo, and there’s a mild, almost spongy note at the end of the sip that appears out of nowhere and rounds this one off perfectly. I wasn’t expecting to like this one, but it’s actually pretty perfect. I feel a little sad that I only have a sample pouch now!

The maple comes through this tea in a big way both in aroma and flavor. The smokiness of the bacon paired with the maple flavor makes this a perfect breakfast tea. Yes, it’s a little unusual, but you won’t be disappointed.
