More teas!
I feel like every time I catch up on new teas there’s another round ready to go!
Personally, I don’t love this tea but y’all already know that I don’t like Chai very much anyway. I will admit though that, as much as I generally do not love Chai or decaf tea, decaf chai was a pretty regular customer request when I worked in stores. DT of course has Cinnamon Rooibos Chai as a core option without caffeine and there are others that we’ve carried in the past, like Coco Chai Rooibos, or that are seasonal like Baked Apple Chai – but often people specifically wanted a decaf black tea Chai…
So I guess this tea is for them…
Honestly, the vanilla in this reminds me a lot of that same vanilla/cream note in Cream of Earl Grey – sometimes I seem to really love that flavour and other times it’s just a bit much for me. I think the pairing of licorice root and anise in this blend really does push that creamy vanilla note to an extreme in this tea – it’s very sweet, and lingers in the back of your throat. Of course, given we’re talking about both licorice root and star anise, it’s fair to say there are notes of licorice in the blend too. I feel conflicted as a person who really dislikes licorice root but who LOVES star anise – for me, the licorice root is the stronger taste but I might be perceiving it more because I have an aversion to it. It’s hard for me to say…
Aside from those flavours, there’s also ginger and cinnamon – and so between the anise/ginger/cinnamon it feels like a bit more of a “classic” Chai composition, just with that heavy dose of vanilla. I feel like it’s well built for milk/lattes, too! Would probably make solid stove top Chai…
I’m definitely not the customer for this one – I feel no pull to keep any of it for myself. Based purely on my own experiences working in store, it seems there was an interest for it though. I look forward to reviews – this is the second decaf blend we’ve done in recent years, and I’ll be interested in seeing whether a demand for more of them becomes apparent over time.
Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts and feelings regarding the teas, and not the company’s.
