Lavender Swirl… where to begin?

This was the second of four teas I ordered during DavidsTEA’s Black Friday/Holiday Sale. I really enjoy lavender in baked goods and drinks, so this piqued my interest as soon as I saw the name. Additionally, I was intrigued by the description of this tea being decadent, and having heavy vanilla notes. It was by far the most expensive of the teas I decided to try, but I just couldn’t resist.

As soon as I opened the pouch, the texture of this blend’s dry components intrigued me. There’s a nice balance between tea leaf (oolong and white) and spices/fruits at least in the mix I was sent. The scent of the dry blend is STRONGLY vanilla, almost like a fresh baked cupcake.

I ended up using more dry leaf in my Perfect Steeper than I typically do, opting for one and a half Perfect Spoons of tea. Much of that was so that I could ensure a well rounded cup containing all components of the blend. I also tend to brew white teas a touch stronger than others, thanks to their delicate flavor.

The resulting cup of tea was pleasantly amber in color, and the cupcake scent had carried over in the brewing. I could now smell the lavender too, mellowing out the bold vanilla. It added a gentle floral note I hadn’t known I was looking for.

But the taste…. oh my goddess the TASTE. This is by far the most indulgent and decadent tea I have ever had. It’s very sweet, but not in such a way that it overwhelms your palette. It reminds me of a cupcake still, but with a whipped frosting. Creamy and decadent without being overly artificial or cloying as buttercream might be. The lavender gives a soft earthiness or smokiness to the undertones of the cup, further supported by the oolong in the blend. Definitely complex, but utterly incredible.

One “portion” of tea leaves lasted me four full steepings with no degradation in flavor at all. This is a tea that makes a perfect nightcap on a frigid winter night, as a hot cuppa. I find it tremendously soothing, and something I crave in place of sodas or sugary desserts.

Thanks to Peach for this delicious tea! It reminds me of Teavana’s lavender creme. The lavender is definitely there, but it’s backed up by a strong dessert flavor. It’s so creamy and sweet. I wouldn’t mind having some more of this one!!

I tried this tea because I was looking to try lavender buttercream and they did not have any in store, so they recommended this tea.
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this. It has a nice and light sweet taste, smells amazing and taste very refreshing and natural. I add in natural because the sweetness taste like it comes from the apple or other ingredients rather than just straight sugar or artificial sugar.

I can easily drink two cups of this in a sitting without getting tired of the flavor or feeling overwhelmed by this. I am excited to try this as a latte after reading some of the other reviews and notes about it. I am not a huge latte drinker but I do enjoy them as a treat sometimes.

I’ve only brewed this with colder water so far, and it’s pretty sweet. Vanilla is very prominent, and it reminds me of frosting. It is a bit fake, but the smell is highly enjoyable. Drinking it cold, it was tasty. This could be my BWB guilty pleasure dessert tea.

Wanting to find Matcha Ice Cream and my lavender teas from DT was what kicked off this latest mission – so here’s lavender tea #1! I know I wasn’t the biggest fan of any of DT’s lavender teas due to a weird flavour that I found offputting, but this one really smells amazing in the bag – so much so that I was having regrets about not having picked up more.

However, the flavour does bring me back to why I hesitated in the first place – it’s delicious, creamy lavender… with this odd chapstick(?) flavour that I just can’t place and am not a huge fan of. That said, the creamy lavender is good enough that I can look past that a bit, so I do wish I had another 50g of this somewhere (but I actually have 1-2 cups left).

I think craving all these florals lately is my brain’s way of subconsciously expressing its deep desire for winter to be over so we can move along to Spring and better weather and more daylight. This was a lovely tea though; soft lavender with creamy vanilla undertones. It’s silky and custard and definitely makes me think of lavender vanilla icecream. Yet another winning (at least to me) combo of florals and cream!
