From DAVIDsTEA

How it tastes:
Tart dark berry flavor with a deep lingering sweetness from the beetroot. The more you sip, the more you taste the beets

This refreshing fruit and veg maté was born for Saturday night dance-offs. What makes it so good? It’s packed with invigorating ingredients that’ll get any party started—from sweet and succulent beetroot to nutrient-rich superfruits like goji and blackberries. Add in a pop of energizing guarana and green yerba maté and you’ll be moonwalking in seconds. Hot or iced, it’s pretty hard to beet.

What makes it great
• Feeling stressed? Beets contain betaine, a substance said to relax the mind.
• We added a base of energizing maté for a deliciously fresh pick-me-up.

Ingredients: Apple (apple, citric acid), Raisins, Hibiscus blossoms, Beetroot, Elderberries, Carrot, Green maté, Goji berries, Aronia berries, Natural and artificial wildberry flavouring, Blackberries, Red currants, Guarana seeds, Raspberries, Cornflower blossoms.

When I smelled this in the store it smelled really good, but tasting it, this tea is quite tart… It needs agave just to make it enjoyable. I’m not a big fan of strong tartness like that, but Ive only tried it iced so far, maybe it would be different hot.

So today has been a super productive day. Im getting a lot done at work and though I normally ignore the teas I bring, I’ve actually drank 2/3 I brought (this and the dragon…I took a sip of the other and burnt my tongue). In the case of this tea, because of the mate and the lack of food, I dipped on this forgetting the caffeine content and got super jittery for a bit. The thing is it is so fruity that I didn’t even realize at first what was going on. So, anyways, moral of the story is despite the copious amount of fruit here and the lack of mate flavor, you can still get buzzed off this.

Btw this is a Sipdown. Yay!

Beet lover here, thanks to my Ukrainian heritage. Dwight Schrute would be proud. But in spite of my love of beets, I am relieved that this doesn’t taste like them. I have had a couple fruit blends in the past with beet that tasted heavily of cellar. Granted, I have had actual beets from the grocery store that taste a lot dirtier than others. My grandma’s garden-grown beets have spoiled me.

But this is Berry Central. A lot more artificial, though, thanks to the wild berry flavouring. A pity the raspberries and elderberries are covered up by the fake nuance. Some goji pops through too but I would think that it is a little out of place here.

Only had this iced, and the hibiscus wasn’t out of control as a heads up.

Second ingredient, whoa. I may have to try it. Replace my recent meh beet memory :P

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised that the beets didn’t take over. It’s just too bad they put so much sweetener and flavouring in here.

Indigobloom

beets are already sweet, what do they need extra sweetener for. Sighs

Cold Brew!

We were handing out free samples of this tea at the MTL Tea Festival and the little single serves are just so conveniently sized for iced or cold brewed teas that I swiped one of the extras at the end of the day.

If I’m being honest, my tin of this tea that I have at home is older than I’d care to admit and though I still think it tastes really nice aged there was definitely a noticable difference in how fresh tasting this cold brew was. Much more of a bright flavour with a pleasant light tartness to offset notes of ripe strawberries and black currant. Kind of jammy but not really necessarily sweet. Just a thickness to the flavour, I suppose. I really enjoyed it though – very refreshing and with dark enough berry notes and that hint of beet earthiness that make it such a good “seasonal pivot” tea for the summer to fall transition.

(Tbh it’s mostly just fall now, but every now and then we have a day that feels more summery than autumnal.)

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts and feelings regarding the teas, and not the company’s.

I was given a sample by a lovely lady. She warned me that it was sour, but I was optimist. However, she was right. I tried it iced but this tea is just too sour for my taste buds. This makes me sad as I really, really wanted to like it because I LOVE beets!
