From DAVIDsTEA

Rooibos is becoming more popular in Western countries particularly among health-conscious consumers. It’s caffeine-free and low in astringency compared to fully oxidized black tea or unoxidized green tea leaves. Delicious on its own or with a splash of milk and sugar, it’s a great choice for people trying to kick a caffeine habit

Hot cuppa w/ chocolate oat milk.

As I mentioned earlier in the week in a different tasting note, this tea is being retired from the wall. However, before any rooibos fans have a heart attack it is being replaced with something that I think is going to be drastically better. I can’t go more in detail on it at the moment, but I look forward to eventually getting to share more information!!

I think it makes sense to retire this tea – purely from a flavour/sales perspective anyway. I mean, there should 100% be a straight rooibos on the tea wall, but this specific one has never really done very well and I find the flavour of it mediocre to average at best. I just don’t see a reason that, if you like straight rooibos, you would want this one over any other available options to you…

As for this farewell cup, there was a group of people from Oatly at one of the major metro stations downtown giving away four litre containers of chocolate oat milk, so I grabbed one a few nights ago and then wasn’t sure what to use it with. I mean, I’ve got tons of it left that will still need to be used, but I figured that worst case it would make this cup a bit more interesting!? It kind of dominates in flavour though, so this mug was sort of like drinking hot chocolate milk, with an undertone of woody and red fruit tasting rooibos.

It was weird, but not bad.

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts and feelings regarding the teas, and not the company’s.
