From DAVIDsTEA

Once yaupon a time

Why aren’t more people talking about yaupon? It’s the energizing herb we’ve all been waiting for. Believe it or not, it’s actually native to North America – and can be found growing wild in Texas, Oklahoma, south Virginia and Florida. With stimulating properties similar to yerba maté and guayusa, yaupon was traditionally brewed into a tea for Native American purification rituals. Ready for a natural high? Try this light and lemony blend of wild-grown yaupon, lemon peel and lemongrass. It might just be a new morning ritual.

i don’t generally like mate, and while this is yapon or whatever…it’s classified as a “mate” type tea by davids. I figured it was worth a shot though, being as it’s not really mate. I like this one. not enough for it to live with me permanently but i am a fan and will enjoy the small amount that i have of this. It’s like an intense lemon water tea…not a lot of sweet, but it’s also not sour.

And how much of a mate buzz does one get from a cup or two of this? As compared to black tea for example? Or should I even ask someone who manages to down 75 cups a day? :)

Sil

uh caffeine rarely affects me so i’m a terrible person to ask.

Go figure. :)

Today I decided to go use up some coupons I have at David’s tea. I had a $10 off coupon that I got for making a purchase on Black Friday. Now that this feel good collection is out, I figured I should use it! Plus it expires at the end of the month lol.

I purchased 3 boxes of tea sachets for $25 (which I really got for $15): Live Wire Lemon, Mango Tumeric, and Ginger Peach Moringa. (I also used some free tea rewards to get some Gold Rush and Buchu Superfruit. I was just raking in the deals today!)

I love ginger. It is one of my absolute favourite flavours. I really liked the Ginger Peach Moringa tea. It was fabulous! When I bought this one, I didn’t even realize it had ginger in it. I took the sachet thing to my night class and made a tea with cold water, hoping that the whole “Live Wire” part would keep me awake for my 3 hour class! It did (yay caffeine!).

I left the tea bag in for probably 5 hours. I know, I know. Tea experts probably think I’m crazy (I’m sorry). I’m glad I did this though! If I didn’t, I wouldn’t have tasted the flavour progression! It starts out super lemon-y, which was to be expected. I didn’t really mind it, but it might be too much for some people. After quite some time the ginger flavour really takes the reigns and enters the foreground. I am super happy about this though!

Overall I liked this tea a lot more than I expected. The lemon flavour isn’t as strong as the smell is, which was a good thing because it was pretty powerful. If this was made hot, I think it would be good for clearing up stuffy noses and sore throats! If I make it cold again, I will add some sweetner to add a little something to it. Otherwise I’m really happy with this lemon tea! Remind me not to drink it at 12:37am though…I’m hoping I can fall asleep!

Cold Brew Sipdown (127)!

…Nope!

This was the tea I brewed up for the trip to Moose Jaw today. And it is a definite miss for me. While I appreciate that the lemon flavour isn’t acidic or very Pledge-like there’s just too much lemongrass and too much ginger both of which are ingredients I greatly dislike for this to be doable for me. Thankfully, I didn’t buy much and to be fair I was able to finish the brew but I greatly disliked doing so. Unrelated to the two ingredients in this blend that I dislike, there was also something in this that reminded me of the smell my gerbils used to give off years ago from their scent glands. Not a desirable quality in tea…

It’s a shame ‘cause I was intrigued by the Yaupon (hopefully that wasn’t the thing that reminded me of gerbil scent glands) as it’s one of the odd/unusual ingredients from this collection that I’d actually heard of prior to seeing the tea. I’m not rating this tea because I think my bias towards the ingredients used is too strong, but were I going to it probably would be something like a 30?

Not a great tea overall.

OMGsrsly

That is possibly the least flattering tea description I’ve seen! :)

I miss having a lemon tea on my tea shelf! It’s one of my favourite flavours in tea, so I had high hopes for this one. Thankfully, I was not disappointed! I let this steep extra long, so the taste would be bolder, and… mmmm. A delightful addition to my breakfast this morning. I may use one of my free tea rewards to pick up 50g of this, since the only mate I currently have in stock is a tiny bit of The Buzz (that reminds me. I need to get some more Electric Lemonade).

Another from the Feel-good collection. Nice lemony taste without being acidic. As mentioned though, I will not restock since I’m not stocking up on caffeine teas at the moment since I have plenty.
