From DAVIDsTEA

Baby, it’s cold outside

Got a blizzard on the way? Score! There’s no better excuse to cozy up inside with a great cup of tea. And this all natural chocolate-mint tisane is the perfect way to warm up on a chilly winter day. With peppermint, cacao nibs and dark chocolate drops, it’s sweet, creamy and oh-so comforting. The best part? Cute little snowflake-shaped sprinkles that add a touch of sweetness. Bring it on, winter!

Price per 50g: $7.98

This is on par with White Chocolate Frost – peppermint and chocolate are pretty much the same to me, regardless of whatever base the tea is, or whatever other ingredients you throw into the mix. This was good as an after dinner tea, and it’s one I’ll probably get more of at some point before the collection goes away.

I tried some of this in-store, but they didn’t make it very strong so when I only tasted mint, I figured that was the reason and bout some anyways (because c’mon, lookit those snowflakes; and chocolate!).

I never really think about the different types of mint ‘peppermint, spearmint’, but goodness this puts the pepper in peppermint. I’m not tasting much else. Did five minutes, might need less than that. Not getting any chocolate, but kinda getting weak sweetness probably from the snowflakes.

I was hoping for a new caffeine free tea. It’s funny, I’m fine with mint in tea, but dislike mint-flavoured things (because they tend to overdo it and it gives me a headache). This might be too minty for me, though. We’ll see, I’ll probably play with the steeping a bit. I think I’m getting some of the white chocolate as it cools…

Really looking forward to the Honey Black tea for December, that looks interesting.

The 24 Days of tea (advent calendar) went on sale on the DAVIDs website at 8am last Sunday. I ordered one at 8:45 and it came in yesterday! Even though I’m not supposed to peek at what the teas are I did look at them to add each to my cupboard here on steepster. I’m very particular about making sure that every tea (not matter how small the amount) is “catalogued” here on steepster so that way as I use them up I can remove them. To be fair though, I don’t remember which teas are for which days, so it still will be a surprise. I’m really looking forward to December 1!

Anywho, along with the 24 days of teas I ordered some black tea sachets for my mom for Christmas + I got 3 free tea samples. This tea is the only one of the samples I haven’t tried before. I opened up the sample and divided it in half (one “tea bag” worth for me, one for my husband) and steeped mine in my 16oz timolino on the way to work. It probably steeped at least a good 10 min before pouring some out into my mug at work to try. The result is the flavor of strongly brewed peppermint tea (yum) with a dark chocolate/cocoa undertone. I normally HATE mint chocolate but the flavor of peppermint tea is much different than the strong mint flavor they put in chocolate bars. Plus the chocolate taste in here is very mild. Overall, If I’m going for a mint chocolate tea this would be it. To be honest though, I probably will not purchase any more of this tea because I have enough teas with peppermint and I usually go for a plainer peppermint tea anyways. Still nice to try, though!

Yeah, this didn’t blow me away either.

Just double checked your tasting note: I preferred white chocolate frost from a few years ago as well. This tea was alright, but I have enough tea in my collection right now that I think that unless I REALLY love a blend I have no plans on stocking up on it. I know I have a small sample of this in my 24 days of tea, but if I never have it again after that I don’t think I’ll be heartbroken lol.

Alyssa

I almost got that one as a sample! I figured double the amount (since there’s already a sample in the advent calendar) might be strange, so I went with some herbals and whites instead.

DAVIDs suggested I do expedited shipping when I went to place my order. I ended up doing regular shipping and it came in two business days. Amazing!

Kristal

Fair enough! For me, when I order online from David’s I always order $50 minimum so I get the free shipping. I ordered this order on Sunday and it came Thursday, which is still really good considering its from Montreal to Northwestern Ontario :).

While really minty, I could still taste the chocolate just fine

not a fan of the smell though, sorta off putting

Well, this tea was a huge disappointment for me. It is peppermint overload. I cannot taste anything but peppermint. Even the peppermint tastes somehow off. And I like peppermint! I took a couple of sips and didn’t want any more. I tried it later as a latte and it was slightly more drinkable, but not something that I would want to have again. Luckily, I got a free sample of this with my online order, so I do not have any tea remaining. But for something that was branded as similar to White Chocolate Frost, this was a major letdown. I would not recommend it unless you absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE peppermint.

I think this tea has a great name. Not because it reminds me of a snow day, but I just love everything about snow days. I love waking up thinking I’m going to have to go to work. Noting that the weather is a swirling billowing white mess outside, and then getting that miraculous, too-good-to-be-true news that work is closed for the day. My god. And even better if it’s a Friday!

Anyway, this tea. I had it in-store as a latte with soy milk, which was not a good way to have it. This afternoon I made it with a bit of cream and sugar, and it was alright. Creamy, powdery peppermint with a hint of chocolate. Honestly, I far prefered white chocolate frost from two years ago. Will not be restocking, I don’t think. Or at least not much. I do want to find one that was like white chocolate frost. Maybe I’ll try 52 tea’s white grasshopper whatever tea. Hmmm.

In other news, I met up with kitenna today for a brief tea exchange/to get my part of the 52 teas order! It was so good to see her!

Dry leaf: Nice balance of mint and chocolate aromas.

Liqueur: Orange-brown color. Has a cooling, powdery mint aroma with chocolate undertones.

Flavour: Cooling, powdery mint is pleasant, not sharp. The chocolate adds a creaminess that ties the blend together.
