From DAVIDsTEA

The apple of our eye

What does comfort mean to you? It might be a favourite sweater, an old family recipe or a perfect cup of tea. For us, it’s all about capturing warm and cozy flavours – like this sweet and spicy blend of apple, figs and chai spices. Laced with cinnamon and star anise, it brings back memories of apple picking, piping hot cider and fresh-from-the-oven pies. Basically, it’s like a hug in a cup. And whether you pair it with a good book or some great company, we guarantee it’s as comforting as it gets.

I put together a sachet of this to take to work today, so that i could use my kettle and not make a mess with strainers and leaves and other tea-related debris. Anyway, I had it plain, and it was actually quite decent given that my expectations were fairly low. There isn’t anything complicated about this tea at all: it’s a lot of cinnamon with some apple lurking underneath, and it was comforting and warming on a day when my office felt as though it might as well be outside. I think I might leave the bag in for even longer next time, since I don’t think there’s much of a risk of over-steeping this one.

Ok, only an hour and twenty minutes to go until I go home. But who’s counting?

Kristal

13 min for me, but then again in 43 min I have to work 2 hours elsewhere..

keychange

Oh no! Hopefully you have a restful weekend :)

Kristal

Working 1-5 Today (Saturday), but that’s not too bad… :)

Kittenna

The only risk for oversteeping this one is that the spices get a bit too powerful :)

keychange

Oh thanks for the heads up, kitenna. What’s the sweet spot for steep time for this, do you think? and Kristal, 1-5 doesn’t sound too bad at all :).

Hot apple cider – and very sweet – no sweetener required! Very good stuff – may buy more!

Sipdown (113)!

I had a really fun time in tea chat this afternoon; Cheri, Lariel, and Veck and I all streamed a few episodes of Corner Gas – which is a half hour comedy show that used to be REALLY popular in Canada, especially in Saskatchewan since it was filmed here in a small town called Rouleau. It was really nostalgic watching it again, and the humor was surprisingly just as funny as I remembered!

Thanks for the fun times and trip down memory lane guys!

Episode one for anyone interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyVkPx5R-lY

This was the cold brew I chose to drink this morning, so it’s the one that accompanied me throughout those episodes. I was wrong to cold brew it though. It was so, so bad! The intensity of the anise, apple, and cinnamon reminded me of Alpine Punch but on steroids. And it was so cloyingly sweet that each sip kind of made me gag a little bit. Five episodes in, and I was only half through my 25 oz. of cold brew. I dumped it. I honestly just could not handle the taste.

If you’re going to drink this stick to trying it hot.

Kristal

Oh I just LOVED corner gas! My library has all the seasons of it I can rent for free and few months back I watched a few of them. Have you seen the movie?

Kristal

Oh, and about the tea- I absolutely agree that it’s ridiculously sweet. Even their peanut butter cup tea which is made of chocolate and apple comes nowhere close to this sweet, yet the names would suggest otherwise

Roswell Strange

It was funny; watching yesterday with everyone I learned that my 10th grade math teacher was an extra for the show (which I never knew). It was a wonderful WTF moment. I have seen the movie; Corner Gas was a pretty big deal here in Saskatchewan :P We went in highschool to see the set in Rouleau which was pretty cool.

Kristal

that’s awesome!

Autistic Goblin

hehe that would be interesting seeing someone you know in a popular show that you like

tanyasew

I agree with you. I am a huge sugar addict and I found this one much too sweet the first time I prepared it.

Sipdown! 277/365!

Sneaky. I didn’t realize this was a rename, but thankfully only got a cup of it, and now it’s gone. I still have some in a small tin somewhere, as well. Anyhow, my previous rating stands; this tea isn’t bad flavourwise (mostly apple and cinnamon), but it’s quite sickly sweet. Too sweet. I think it’s from the cinnamon? But I’m not sure. Not a tea I really want again, though it could serve certain purposes, I think.

Dry leaf: Cinnamon and clove forward complimented by red apples.

Liqueur: Deep orange color. Spice (clove, anise, cinnamon) aromas shine through a fine apple fruitiness.

Flavour: Tastes like rich apple cider with well balanced spice and citrus flavors. Just like smelling boiling cider.
