Tie Kwan Yin (Organic) [duplicate]

Clean, balanced…surprisingly good, not too vegetal imo. A nice choice from DT. Sip down!

I am usually all about sweet, creamy, dessert tasting teas, but I am addicted to Tie Kwan Yin. It’s a little vegetal/earthy, a little bitter, and tastes so amazingly roasted, toasted and dry… like toast burnt on the edges, burnt popcorn and roasted nuts (so I guess it is dessert-ish, in a way, lol), but not sweet. Has a woody quality to it, a hint of golden, honeyed goodness, and an addictive warmth, and I love how strong the aroma and taste are. A little like roasted coffee beans, but so much better.

My favorite Oolong Supreme was not available and so I picked up the Tie Kwan Yin Oolong instead. I don’t like this one as much as the Oolong Supreme but it is good. I find it to be earthier than the Supreme. Also it tastes “roasted” (if that’s even a taste). You can tell this is a decent quality tea.

im suprised by how much i like this. i found 50g of this tucked in a corner of my tea cupboard (as opposed to my tea drawer, or tea bin) that i hadnt opened yet. alot of cinnamon flavour, and moderate sweetness that at times gives it a taste kind of like what those mini donuts get dusted in. on hindsight maybe not a good idea to type that when im so hungry. also got a bit of a tomato vine background a couple times as well in the second steeping. this is probably one that i will buy some more of when this mystery bag of it is gone. looking forward to putting some of this in the gaiwan.

Ive recently developed a taste for Tieguanyin oolongs, so I decided to try this. Well there is a medium roast on this tea, and the tea leaf size is pretty small. Rinsing this tea with 205 water and brewing it in a 120 yixing.

First infusion I get a strong aroma of toast and cinnamon , a little bit of other spices too, maybe allspice or something. Its light and clear, honey color maybe, there might be a slight taste of honey in it as well.

Second infusion was very similar, the flavor is good and mellow and sweet. Though the flavor is mostly spice and toast. This is the first time Ive gotten to try something from davids tea, not bad at all.

Im going to steep this out a few more times. I figure its probably got 10 or so steepings in it.

This Tie Kwan Yin is on the higher end of the spectrum for baking and oxidation. Leaf size is smaller than usual, color is dark brown and there is an absence of lighter green shades. Aroma of infused leaves is burnt, nutty, and sharp despite having fairly weak aroma without a large amount of leaf brought close to the nose. Infused leaf is not as well formed as other examples of tie kwan yin and seems to not have been beaten enough in the production process. Liquor is clear and pale gold in color . Taste is buttery, toasty, and nutty. Mouth feel is medium weight and slightly dry. Leaves the mouth feeling dry and slightly thirsty. Tastes best with a large leaf to water ratio and short infusion times.
