Love at first flush

High up in the Himalayas, overlooking the snow-capped peaks of majestic Mount Kanchenjunga, lies the exceptional Puttabong Tea Estate. Tea grown up here just tastes better – thanks to the pure mountain air, unique soil and perfect altitude. This garden has been growing amazing Darjeeling teas since 1852. And this year’s delicately delicious crop is no exception – sweet, refreshing and uniquely creamy, with hints of sweet grass, sycamore leaves, tea oil and mountain meadow honey. We rushed it to our shelves right after the pluck so you can taste it fresh off the bush. Extremely limited edition…this one won’t last long.

First flush Darjeelings are so finicky but when you get it right the tea is very nice. I’ll admit that I was a bit dubious that Davids Tea could produce a decent first flush but this one isn’t bad. It’s got a faintly sweet vegetal, grassy flavour with notes of fresh walnuts. It’s not overly harsh and it’s fairly forgiving with the steeping parameters – though that doesn’t mean you should treat it like your English Breakfast! If you’d never tried a first flush before, this is the tea I’d point you towards.

Nope. I can’t do it.

I was given this… awhile back, from the birth giver, who knows I love my black teas. I opened this up… green. Looks green. Smells black but a bit like dirt and leaves as well. I steeped it for a little less than three minutes and with not-boiling water on account of it looking greener.

Still looks dark green. Smells green. Tastes green and very bitter. Added honey. It didn’t help. I’ll try this again before damning it with a pretty low number for tasting like I’m licking a handful of dirty copper coins.

“Dirty Copper Coins” Oh wow.

Yeah… D: I want to give it another try because I’m assuming it was something I did wrong. But really don’t want to taste that again.

This tea is phenomenal! I am never a fan of straight blacks but this one I had to try when it said “creamy” I guess you get what you pay for because this has excellent quality. It’s sweet, nutty, and creamy. I’ll be purchasing a little bit more before it goes away :)

1st re-steep was okay, i definitely lost the creaminess. it now has a more astringent bitter black flavor. i would still repurchase though because the first steep is good

This isn’t something I’d typically go for, but as I was sharing this cup with my boyfriend I figured we should go for something he might enjoy.

Overall this tastes very green and earthy. It’s reasonably light and refreshing, like eating bean sprouts at times. Maybe the faintest floral notes. I don’t think I’d get this again, but it wasn’t horrible.
