Initially I left this one alone because I am not always crazy about pu’erh blends, but we picked some up today and am I ever impressed. The tea bases add an earthy note to what is otherwise a citrus tea. There is also a natural sweetness to the brew, which makes it even more enjoyable! I am really glad we grabbed this tea and I gave it a shot!

Very bright orange flavour, a bit of tartness, a bit of earthiness, but overall actually quite a decent orange tea. No fishiness to note, either. Not a huge fan of flavoured pu’erhs, so I won’t get any more of this, but it’s blended pretty well, IMO.

As people have said before: an unapologetic orange tea. Punchy and tart and refreshing. Awesome iced, and hot with a bit of vanilla syrup. My family adores it, we ordered several tins.

Picked up quite a few DT samples today; all of the new citrus-y Spring blends, The Buzz, Espresso Yourself, and this one. The only relatively new one I didn’t get was Yogi Berry since I can’t drink it because of the Kombucha powder. I also got two tea infused chocolate bars! I’m sure I’ll write about those eventually too.

Reviews on this one seem to be fairly polar, and I was actually relatively sure I’d land on the side of people who dislike this blend – but aisling of tea and her wife De’s glowing reviews made me really want to give it a shot, especially since usually we see fairly eye to eye with DT blends. I admit; this one certainly does smell delicious dry! Very juicy with really vibrant tangerine notes!

Steeped up this actually isn’t anything like I thought it’d taste – which I suppose is good because I anticipated it tasting like garbage; especially when it has some serious similarities to Garcinia Goodness, and I practically loathed that blend.

There’s a sparkling effervescence to this blend; I can see it making a phenomenal tea soda! I’m really, really tasting the tangerine in the blend; but the plain ol’ orange is pretty strong too. It reminds me a little of orange tic tacs? Sweet, candy orange with a little bit of tang to it. Surprisingly I don’t really taste anything that particularly reminds me of hibiscus? Maybe there’s not a lot of it in the blend, or it just blends into the tangerine really well.

As for the base; it’s hard for me to believe this is Pu’Erh or Black Tea (the blend uses both). It’s just really light overall and the flavourings are really the focus here. I suppose I do taste the Pu just a little though; there’s a rawness to the fruit that tastes a little earthy in the finish. The mouthfeel of this one is nice too; kind of thick.

I’m pleasantly surprised by the blend DT; I didn’t buy a lot but I’ll be able to have a few more cups and if they’re like this one at all I could, in fact, see this as a blend I’d buy more of!

EDIT: I forgot to mention that talking with the DT associate today she let a few things slip. Apparently in the next few months DT will be adding somewhere around four new matcha blends. Considering they already sell three varieties of straight matcha (Grand Cru, Matcha Matsu, and the Ceremonial Grade) when I hear that my immediate impression is that they may be venturing into the flavoured matcha market. Of course, that’s only an assumption but I think it’ll be interesting seeing what they do in fact introduce.

Also, it appears Cherry Blossom will be making a more permanent return!? The associate said she was pretty sure it’s coming back next month. Perhaps as a tea of the month? I can’t remember exactly who liked that one, but I guess that’s something to look forward to. I’m just happy it means they’ll be expanding their white teas a little more; that area of the tea wall has been pretty badly trimmed down…

Thanks for the info, looking forward to the Cherry Blossom and the new matchas!

I have to make it to DT to get the new blends too. Although none really piqued my curiosity, so I’ll try and make them give me only like 6g.

Interesting about the matcha, though! I didn’t like Cherry Blossom a great deal, so that’s not something that matters, but I would perhaps try a flavoured matcha from DT.

I was on their website last night and saw that they had a set of 12 individually packed matcha for sale. There were three flavours available: mint, mocha and vanilla. So basically you get four packs of each flavour. I think they took it down because I strangely can’t seem to find the set anymore…

Had a cup of this to go today from my local DT and… oh my word. I said I was looking for a tea with a straight up, strong orange flavour? THIS IS IT. I LOVE IT. The first couple of sips were okay, but by the time it had steeped for a while, the flavour turned out amazing. I don’t even think I can taste the hibiscus in this one, as it is a little on the sweet side. A good flavour profile to balance out the pu’reh base and I can’t wait to to get some for my stash!

The whole world (of Steepster) has heard my wife’s story about my mother and “orange you glad” puns, so I won’t repeat it. What I will repeat is that this tea is fucking amazing. Like just unbelievably good. Like . . . I just don’t have the words to adequately express that this tea completely surprised me in a very good way. We’ve all had orange pu’erh before. It’s a good combination of flavours – the sweetness and tartness of orange, the dark chocolatey richness of the pu’erh. But this is like a sweet tangy herbal perky punch, but with that dark undercurrent of pu’erh. And caffeine. Don’t forget about the caffeine. I just had to keep smelling it. So good. Sooooooo good.

This was my Frequent Steeper birthday tea. I chose it because I like oranges and thought that orange + pu could be a tasty combo. Turns out it is. This tastes like Tropicana orange juice. You have to watch the steep time, though, because it just keeps getting tarter. I had difficulty really making out the pu’erh-ness of this. It tastes more like a mild black tea to me. The second steep just tastes like OJ from concentrate. Still nice but not as juicy as the first steep.

I don’t know if it’s because I drank this on an empty stomach or even unrelated to drinking this tea at all, but I started feeling sick after having this tea. First my stomach hurt, then my chest felt tight for 15-20 minutes, then I gradually developed a migraine that required medication to treat. Just noting it in case it happens again.

i picked this one up from David’s tea based solely on my love of orange teas and the positive review from aisling of tea, though others have not loved this. DRY, this smelled AMAZING…like delicious tangerine orange wonderfulness.

Brewed, it comes across more like a herbal than a puerh but more like i sometimes wish puerh stored in oranges would taste like. There is a sweetness to this brew that is similar to the sweetness i get from stevia or licorice root that is at the tail end of the sip. Agree that this is more like tang than orange but i think that comes from the tangerine flavour. It’s not a bad cup, but the after taste is bothersome….it makes me want to add a bit more puerh to the blend to see if that deepens the tea a bit. Still not bad, though i likely won’t need more than this sample

Tea of the day at David’s stores today. This tea smells juicier than any dry tea leaf thought possible. Brewed, it has more depth with the earthy pu erh base. The sour fruit notes are the most prevalent, and though hibiscus is in this blend, it does not take over. The tangerine flavoring is the most distinct , though I am able to recognize just a hint of the darker blackberry as well. I think this tea is less sweet than garcinia goodness at Davids Tea, but still has a robust and fruity flavor. Since pu erh teas do have a tendency to get too earthy or fishy, pairing it with a bold punch like orange is a good call in my opinion. And the medium caffeine level means its just right for a noontime cup.

Had this yesterday as a tea to go…I was gonna get Yogi Berry, but then saw this and opted for bright sunny citrus to my rough day. And even though it had hibby in it, I seemed to recall I was ok with it in another Pu Erh blend that they had had in the past (Berry Good).

This one smelled reeaaaaallllyyyyy good, and it perked me up, so last minute switch to this one to take with me. Sadly, something in it gave me the same taste I get when I have licorice, fennel, or anise…but none of those were present in the ingredient list. I can only think it is one of the orange components, as I have had that same taste in teas with the orange whatever….I can’t remember which one it is.

So I really wanted to like this, but it just started tasting bad from whatever it was in it. :(
