From DAVIDsTEA

It’s bright. It’s flamboyant. It’s totally over the top. Oh, and it’s incredibly good for you. If you haven’t gotten to know the dragon fruit yet, it’s time you gave this crazy-looking cactus a try. Though it looks a little bizarre, the flavour is actually quite mild – somewhere between a kiwi, a melon and a pear. And it’s so packed with good stuff, it’s being hailed as the next big super fruit. Taste it for yourself in this super tangy tropical blend. With apple, rosehip, hibiscus and blackberry leaves, it’s a great introduction to a fruit you definitely want to know.

Ingredients: Apple, rosehips, hibiscus, sweet blackberry leaves, dragonfruit, cornflower petals, natural dragon fruit flavouring.

I love this tea, but I’m at a loss on how to describe it. it’s thick, fruity (can’t identify the fruit, though this might have something to do with the fact that I’ve never had dragonfruit), and sweet. I’m so sad that I’m out of this!

I enjoy this hot or iced….it reminds me of Pink Starburst candy. Naturally sweet it really doesn’t need any additional sweetener unless you really want it to be candy sweet. It is very light and fruity – I pick up the rosehips, hibiscus and blackberry leaves more than the apple, and the dragonfruit actually tastes like dragon fruit.

A light, fruity herbal, perfect for summer. This tastes like the color pink (if pink had a taste).
I don’t think I’ve ever actually eaten dragon fruit. So, I’m not sure if it really tastes like that or not. But, the fruit in this brew reminds me of a juicy star fruit a little, but less tart and with a bit of gentle floral. I love dragons and pink, so this tea is a keeper for me. I tried this as an iced tea for the first time when i was at my store last night, and I feel like I have been depriving myself of deliciousness for way too long. it is definitely at the top of my tea shopping list now!

I sampled this tea when it was the tea of the month (June/July ish..?). After sampling it, I had to get a to-go cup of it! It was great!

This is awesome cold. I’m not too familiar with the different methods of making cold tea…I have heard that some people make it hot and then refrigerate it for a while. When I make this cold I just pop some ice in a water bottle and then fill it up with cool water! Good to go! (I leave the bag in the whole time I drink it)

This tea is very fruity and refreshing, especially on a hot day. I went through bags and bags of it this past summer. One of my favorites for sure. It is quite sweet, but not overly sweet. It has the perfect amount of sweetness without adding any sweetner.

I have never tried this one hot. I’m not big on fruity hot teas, but I will probably test it out soon to see.

I wasn’t originally going to buy this tea because of its strong hibiscus smell, but my cousin convinced me that the dragonfruit in it would make it worthwhile, so I caved. Probably not the best decision on my part. The dragonfruit was a pretty strong component if this tea, but the hibiscus ruined it. Too be fair though I don’t think tea was that great in the first place. It tasted rather…. Musty (?). And not in a good way. Like the way gym lockers smell. So not good. I’ll probably give it to my cousin to finish off; she seemed to think it was ok for the occasional drink

Another tea I thought I didn’t have, but it turns out that I bought it and just never tried it. Whoops. (Also means my cupboard number was off. Again. I really need to do a thorough inventory so I can accurately record sipdowns…)

Since this has the Dreaded Hibiscus, I kept the infusion time to a minimum, and it seems I was successful, since the liquor is only somewhat purplish. The flavour also indicates my success – barely a trace of hibby. However, the rest of the flavour is kind of odd. It tastes almost like… melons? to me, along with something floral. But the floral tastes weird and artificial. It’s reminding me strongly of something, but I’m having trouble figuring out what – my best guess is Minute Maid fruit punch, which I’m not overly fond of. Yeah… fruit punch is what I think I’m tasting. And since I’m not overly keen on that particular fruity combo… this tea is not great either. Minus points for tasting extra artificial, too, and for the unnecessary faint hibby sourness. If you like fruit punch, this probably tastes awesome to you.

…ew. hot fruit punch just sounds…..ew.

Kittenna

I actually ended up drinking it after it had cooled – it was too fruity to have hot.

Roswell Strange

I think I compared this to fruit punch too…?

Looks like you did :)

Veronica

Sorry it’s a bad tea, but your review of it made me laugh. :)

Anlina

If you like dragon fruit, Teavana and Cornelia Bean have ones that are much, much better.

Cheri

I agree with Veronica. I laughed.

MissB

I don’t remember ever having dragon fruit, although it’s in plentiful supply here in Vancouver (in season). I’ll definitely try out other options.. although I’ve been ignoring Teavana now for a while.

MissB

Also, glad y’all laughed! Always worried when I swear on here.

Steepster has sure been KING JERK lately.

Normally I can’t stand dragon fruit. It tastes like cellar. But I swallowed hard and picked up enough to cold brew two litres. The result wasn’t half bad, as I got mostly apple and hibiscus, but it wasn’t amazing either. Kind of tasted a lot like many other David’s fruit blends that they’ve rolled out over the past few years. The lines start to blur after a while.

But at least it wasn’t ridiculously sweet like others in the past have been.

Anlina

Of the three dragon fruit teas I have, this is my least favourite.

Fjellrev

Which other ones do you have, and are they very dragon fruity?

Anlina

I have Dragonberry from Cornelia Bean and Dragonfruit Devotion from Teavana. I think they’re similar in dragonfruit levels to this one, but I found that Magic Dragon has an aftertaste I dislike, that the other two don’t.

Though if you generally loath dragonfruit then you might not like either of those.

Fjellrev

Ha, yeah, I probably won’t, but I had no idea other companies were even trying to infuse this particular flavour in tea.

Having tried a sample of this tea at the store I picked up a small amount to enjoy at home. I absolutely love dragon fruit, so I thought, “Why not?”

I finally had a chance to make a batch of this last night. I used 3 tablespoons and 1.7L of boiling water (as I have when preparing other herbal iced teas) and let it brew overnight.

Again, nothing was added to the tea.

Sadly I’m not loving this tea like I thought I would. The hibiscus is just a little too overwhelming (unlike Pink Flamingo and Guava Cadabra I found that it is quite front and centre rather than being a supporting flavour). There’s also the added rosehip and cornflower petals which is also throwing me off a bit. I don’t believe I’m even tasting any dragon fruit (however, in DT’s defense dragon fruit is a very light and subtle tasting fruit).

It’s not a horrible tea, but I don’t believe I would purchase this one again…unless if someone has any suggestions on how to better prepare this tea? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
