From DAVIDsTEA

If you ask us, the watermelon is king of summer. We know it’s a bold statement, but it’s true. No picnic, BBQ or pool party is complete without its juicy pink-and-green goodness. And this summer we’re giving you one more reason to think pink…a fresh and fruity melange of melon and apple, with a super-refreshing burst of peppermint. Try it on ice with a splash of vodka – it’s the ultimate summer thirst quencher. All hail the king! Limited edition.

I just noticed that I totally missed my 200th tasting note milestone! So hooray! Anyway, this tea. Dry, it has a very powerful scent! Whew. Very strong watermelon-ish scent with a lot of mint. The tea itself is a mixture of a bunch of huge dried fruit chunks.

Yum, I actually like this a lot more than I thought I would based on the smell. I did add sugar, by the way. The front of the sip is watermelon, and it’s very juicy and convincing. Maybe a tiny hint of tart which just exemplifies the juicy flavor. The mint shows up midway through and dominates from then on. It leaves a nice cooling sensation through the aftertaste, which lingers for some time. Very nice, and would be fantastic cold!

Off-topic time! I have signed up for madametj’s traveling tea box(es), and it’s been requested that I get some verification posted from the several people that I’ve swapped with. So if you’ve done a swap with me, please reply to my recent post in the “I would vouch for [username] – tea swap credibility” thread, or send a private message to madametj. Please and thank you! :)

I had this tea iced while on vacation a few weeks ago. Overall, I would say that this one was just O.K. but nothing great. I am not usually a fan of watermelon and I can’t say that this tea was able to change that. The mint was nice and refreshing and the watermelon was quite hydrating (a much needed drink on such a hot day). I don’t think that I will be trying this one again as I am not a fan of watermelon but if you are a fan of watermelon, it may be something you would enjoy.

Dry, this one smells like the scented markers they gave us in Kindergarten. I thoroughly confused my fiance last night when I held the bag of this under his nose and demanded, “Doesn’t it smell like a magic marker?” If he didn’t think I was crazy before, he probably does now… (That IS what this tea smells like though. It’s not my fault if his elementary school wasn’t as awesome as mine.)

I steeped this one for 7 minutes and got a VERY minty tea; after I’d finished the cup, the cooling sensation from the mint lingered in the back of my throat. The fruit flavor is reminiscent of watermelon and very light. It’s more of an accent to the mint flavor if anything.

Overall, this is an enjoyable tea, but I’m not sure I’d want it in anything other than a sample package.

I love anything mint but I was not a fan of this tea. You can barely taste the watermelon except for just a hint. It is better cold but it is still just like a sweeter mint tea. Not one of my favorites..

Pass the Stash

I received this tea from Marzipan as my present in the Pass the Stash box! Boy, was I ever excited! I swear my boyfriend thinks I am crazy for getting this excited over tea and my dog just gives me the funniest of looks as I dance about in excitement. Ahh, but it is so much fun to enjoy life like this. Needless to say, I had a difficult time waiting this long to dive into this tea.

Wow. I’m so happy with this tea-it is amazing and totally fits the whole summer spirit. I could see myself happily sipping this tea iced on the coast of a warm and sunny beach. Mmm..oh, yes. The mint in this tea is so refreshing and the watermelon is so fresh! Plus, I’m loving the fact that it is an herbal tea so I can drink loads of it at any time of the day..oooohhh, yeah! I’ve already gone through three giant pots of this tea (both hot and iced-both are very tasty) so I can’t imagine that this tea will last me very long… tehehe.

This is such a fun tea for summer. It is so refreshing iced. The watermelon and mint flavors are strong. The mint seems pretty natural but the watermelon does taste a little artificial, like a lollipop almost. But I did not expect anything else, especially since the fruit itself is too watery to be able to steep and translate flavor.

I managed to resist going into a David’s to check out the summer collection for a few weeks at least.

Last time I was in I’d signed up for their rewards program so I had a free tea coupon. I had the very nice sales girl make me a cup of this iced. I opted to have it plain with no sweetener.

Holy wow was this ever delicious! I was sharing this with my boyfriend but after he had a sip I almost didn’t get it back. This was also the first ever iced tea I’ve had freshly prepared like this, and let me tell you, I’m completely sold on the whole concept. I bought the whole summer collection and I’ve been working my way through them since!

At the store this was super fruity and I didn’t taste the mint at all. When I made it at home, while it was steeping hot all I could smell was mint! It was crazy! Once iced, the mintiness diminished but it was still there. Still delicious. Love this tea.

It is hot out and this flavor is an iced tea of the day brewing happily at the David’s Tea store. I think the forces are just right today for this tea. The watermelon is very apparent, maybe even a little bit like a Jolly Rancher. I take my tea unsweetened, so it’s not too candy-like but I bet it would be like a cup of dessert with sugar. The brew itself is a gentle pink, girly and pastel-colored. The mint is a nice pairing with the calm melon flavor and really sells it as an iced flavor. I wouldn’t suggest this tea as a hot cup and I know when cooler weather hits I’ll look back on this review with skepticism, but today watermelon mint is keeping me cool, calm, and collected.

My hubby picked up some watermelon mint for me to try because even though I know that most new DT blends taste like bubblegum to me, I wanted to try it. I’m a sucker! I also like mint a lot and have had reasonable success with fruit based herbals, so it seemed worth a go.

The dry leaf smells very artificially sweet and bubblegumy, I don’t get the mint at all. I scooped from the bottom of the sample to get some mint in there but it must be a small amount compared to all the fruit. Steeped, I have a light pink/peach brew that smells slightly like watermelon with a hint of something that may be mint but I can’t be sure. It doesn’t smell as sweet or as artificial as it did dry, which is nice.

First sips actually do taste of watermelon, but only a bit and not tremendously artificial. Still no mint, but I get some coolness afterward. I never tried the previous watermelon tea that people loved so much so I can’t say how it compares but this is quite nice. Gentle watermelon, gentler mint. No bubblegum, and not too in your face. Of course, I likely used less tea than DT recommends, but I know my tastes and almost always ignore the company recommendations. Works for me! :)

I have had this a couple of times as the tea of the day and it is too minty for me. I guess to each their own.

Uniquity

I am a mint lover, so that could be a factor. You also never know how good of a mix you get, so mine might be light on mint. I accidentally steeped it 10 – 15 minutes today and found it much more minty. I thought about making another note, but was lazy.

TOTD teas are often really strong as well, I find. Often stronger than I make things. :)

Cattibrie

I did not mention though that my son loves it. He has had it as his iced tea twice when we stopped at the store.
I often find that the tea of the day is not a good indicator of the tea. Some I have not liked as tea of the day I have enjoyed when I have prepared it. I do however find that if I like the TOTD my opinion does not change when I am making it at home.

I had this earlier this evening. Needed something cold and refreshing after my workout and remembered that I had this cold brewing in the fridge.

I don’t usually like minty tea’s, but I had success with another mint tea, and thought I’d give this one a try when I read a different review stating it offered a coolness rather than a minty flavour.

I remember when I opened the packet it smelled strongly of bubble gum. When I took a sip, that’s exactly what it tasted like as well. Watermelon bubble gum. It does have that melon flavour, but it’s too artificial and candy-like for me. I’m glad I only got a pitcher packet of it. Not for me.

caile

Yeah, I got the bubblegum taste as well especially after it sat in the fridge overnight. :(
