From DAVIDsTEA

Mumbai’s the word

They’re colourful. They’re over the top. In a word, they’re epic. Nothing can quite compare to the sheer energy of Bollywood films. But we’ve tried to at least do them justice with this lively, colourful chai. It’s a delicately sweet black tea blend with all the warm, comforting flavour of a fresh spice cake. Not to mention the fun, vibrant pop of candy-coated fennel seeds, a classic Indian breath freshener. It’ll have you singing and dancing with the Bollywood greats in no time.

Ingredients: Black tea, fennel candy, ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, pink peppercorns, natural ginger, vanilla and cinnamon flavouring*.

You would think that drinking this tea would pep you up and make you wanna have a Bollywood dance party. But this is not exactly the case. This tea reminds me of the tea I used to drink after my Moksha Yoga class. It is tea you drink when you want to relax, be calm and zen :)

I have this thing with chai tea (not that this is chai tea, but it is very similar) that I absolutely cannot get enough of it! I love cinnamon and cardamom and that kind of spice. Also, this tea has a certain sweetness to it from the fennel candies that makes me love it even more!

The first time I tried this tea, it was after school (well actually I was skipping my last class) and I went to David’s Tea with my friend and we tried this tea together for the first time! So YAY to combining social activity and tea drinking

The smell of this tea is sweet, due to the fennel candy, but has a hint of spiciness. The fennel candy and array of colour in the tea make it a nice a nice tea to look at when it is dry.

When you steep the tea, the fennel candy does melt and leaves a refreshing taste in the beverage, which compliments the cinnamon and peppercorns well. Personally, I could not taste the ginger and the vanilla.

This tea tastes better hot than cold. Do not steep this tea too long because it will taste rather bitter — and I normally like long steeped teas.

THis tea was tasty, but I found the cardamom a little too strong.

I wish the liquor weren’t so cloudy (all that candied fennel- looks great in the tin but it just muddies up the water), but this is a pretty great chai that goes good with milk and/or iced.

So first off……..VACATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Second off….DAVIDsTEA I love you unconditionally but you have not made a real CHAI yet…there are awesome drinks under that name in your stock but it is not really chai.

I’m hoping that changes today.

In the pouch it smells like REAL chai……finally….ah my heart and nose are set afire. It is spicy, sexy, sweet and I can hear Indian music in my head.

Start the Sitar and light the hookah …we may be in Chai heaven.

the brewed tea is hazy like syrup… Sweet smelling like candied fennel. Not as strong as in the pouch but taste time is coming.

First taste: Ah the smell has caught up on it’s promise fully chai fully authentic! Excited. The taste is DEFINITELY Chai! FINALLY DT has Chai…..

It is a bit light but that can be fixed with either more tea steeped or a longer steeping time. It is not blowing my mind but I see the potential of it with just a little fussing.

Finally! Authentic DT Chai.

Warm and spicy, it’s good, but didn’t blow me away. I’ll enjoy it while I have it, but I don’t think I’ll remember it or go back for seconds.

This is a nice balanced chai, especially when compared to alot of other Davids Tea chais which tend to be very strong on the cinnamon flavour. I found this one was very sweet.
