Tung Ting Vietnam

Since I took a little time off from new teas a while back I have TONS that piled up OMG I’m trying to tackle them as quickly as I can but WOWZA!

Here’s a little sample I had laying around for a while now.

This oolong is tightly-rolled! It’s screaming for multiple infusions!

It leaves a pale yellow-green color in the cup!

It has a fairly-flat oolong taste with a bit of mouth-watering sweetness right at the end of the sip. I do like the end of the sip more than the beginning of the sip! The after taste hints at a mineral-rock type taste but not overly-so.

The more I sip this the more I’m liking it.

A tea in my cupboard I haven’t tried! I couldn’t decide what I was in the mood for, so I thought I’d try a new tea, and this one was sitting there just begging me to give it a shot. So yes, I did, and it is quite good.

The dry smell is very much a green oolong scent, it reminds me of the Ginseng oolong also by DavidsTea. It has a slight creaminess about it as well. I steeped the full 5 minutes with 195 degree water. The steeped smell is interesting. It’s reminding me of a tieguanyin, but with a different creaminess. Probably the closest I’ve smelled to it is Verdant’s tyg. However, there’s a rockiness in the scent as well to me. Interesting. Oh, and it brewed up quite light, for some reason I was expecting something darker, haha too many black teas lately :P

As for the taste, it is light yet full. A tieguanyin flavor with rocks. There’s a floral aspect in the aftertaste as well. Hmm, how to describe this, I haven’t described a new oolong in so long. It is good. Hahaha, that’s a terrible description, but I am enjoying this cup, and it is going down quite smoothly. It’s not quite as creamy as a Verdant oolong, but that’s ok, I wasn’t in the mood for something crazy rich. The flavor is buttery though, reminiscent of the Ginseng oolong to me as well, but minus the weird sweet aftertaste. Oh and maybe there’s a bit of pine taste in the middle of the sip. Yes, it is definitely there, it adds a freshness to the tea that is quite nice.

Overall, a nice little unflavored oolong. I am not yet sure if it will be a restock, as I am pretty slow at drinking my oolongs for some reason, but it will get drank at least! I will have to get my boyfriend to try this one, he will probably love it, as he is a big fan of unflavored teas, especially tieguanyins.

Yum! I bought a bunch of teas today for a birthday gift at Davids and saw this in a little sampler pack for half price. I should have loaded up on them, but only bought two. Oh well.

It smells very oolongy and buttery and great. Guess what? That’s pretty much how it tastes too. It’s a nice light tea, and and the flavour just lingers after each sip.

I’d say that this is a pretty good green oolong. The leaves are tightly rolled into biggish balls and the scent is green and buttery with a little floral…I can’t really pick out which floral though. It leaves a somewhat creamy feel to the mouth like a milk oolong, but not as sweet or strong. It is a nice light tea, and were I to be out of my milk oolongs, this would fill the gap til I got more.

I participated in a tea tasting with the staff at the Uptown (Victoria BC) store (I consider them to be my friends now, really), yesterday evening to try the three new teas they received. I can’t wait to try the other new ones when they come in too!!

Being an avid oolong fan, and having a great love of the Quangzhou Milk Oolong, I was extremely excited to see a new straight oolong! This is even more special as it is the first tea they’ve received from Vietnam!

We did both a gongfu and western style brew to taste it, each brew style bringing out slightly different notes of the flavour. The gongfu brew brought out more of the delicate floral notes (reminds me of orchid? Magnolia? It’s definitely more floral than piney), and the western style brew brought out a rich sweetness reminiscent of the Quangzhou.

I went home with 100g and will likely need to get more before the month is up!

i dont think i would repurchase it because i prefer roasted oolongs. But i would never turn it down

1.5 tsp for 250mL water @90C, steeped 4 minutes, drunk bare.

I was hoping for a that high note, almost a fruitiness, but this Tung Ting tribute is more of a buttery oolong with a distsnt whiff of tart plum. And that’s fine. Sweet and steady but definitely buttery.

I’m no great aficionado of oolong teas—having only really tried DAVIDsTEA’s Milk Oolong, Citron Oolong, and Prairie Berry—but who could resist the cute little packet of this for $1?

To my untrained taste buds the first steep of this reminds me of a less milky Quangzhou Milk Oolong, vegetal, creamy and smooth. I lost the second steep due to a maple bug flying into the water and dying (YECH), but the third steep still had much of the flavour of the first, just less intense. I’d try for a fourth, but it’s late now and I’ve had enough tea for today. Maybe next time.

I’m still new to oolongs, especially unflavoured ones. let’s be real I’m new to unflavoured tea of all kinds. I took tiny sip to start & my immediate thought was, this is so yummy. my next sip it had cooled a bit because I was drinking another tea first, was ick, but then so good.

this is a really rich & buttery tea, and slightly floral. similar to cashews, something I could only have a little of at a time. I only steeped for about 3 minutes. not the suggested 5. definitely think I have to buy some of this one.
