From DAVIDsTEA

As good as it gets

It was three o’clock in the afternoon on a rainy Friday. David was hungry. He needed a nap, a shave, and a hot meal. What he had was a kettle, a pack of matches, and a bag of black tea. So he grabbed some ingredients and threw them in the water. Chocolate, cinnamon, coconut, vanilla – this drink was a real piece of work. He lifted his cup, took a drink and then another. It was hotter than an inferno and smoother than silk. It was good. Almost too good.

Ingredients: Organic: Black tea, chocolate, cinnamon, coconut, vanilla. With natural vanilla flavouring*.

Allergens: Dairy and coconut

So I’m a little behind on tealogs, because I had a bunch of new Della Terra Teas yesterday, but I don’t want to write reviews of them yet, because I think my taste buds were off due to a massive headache that progressively got worse until I took some Advil when I got home from work. I did get to use my cute elephant mug, though, and I received my first Butiki order, so not a bad day!

I had this tea again this morning, because it was one of my first favorites from DavidsTea, and I’ve been seeing some less than stellar reviews on here lately. I still really like it. I agree with some of the reviewers that the cinnamon is more prominent than the chocolate, and that it can turn out weak if you don’t steep enough leaf, but I think you just have to experiment with it and find the right specifications. I steep about 2tsp for 5 minutes and add milk and sugar. I still think it tastes like chocolate cinnamon loaf from Starbucks! Yum!

Maybe I will try a bit more leaf next time, and a slightly longer steeping time. I should like this one more than I did!

Mini sipdown! 15g samples are the best thing.

I found this one to be on the boring side of things but it’s not a bad “tea”, or maybe “diet hot chocolate blend” would be a better label. The coconut and cocoa makes it creamy and smooth and the cinnamon gives it some flavour. Not a fan of the oil islands on the surface but that seems to be an inescapable trait with ingredients like these. Super scummy.

Like many DT’s, the base is nearly undetectable. I found this drinkable with or without milk. It sort of looks like it has something in it already, anyways.

I added more leaf and a longer steep time to this and it still left me a bit disappointed. I will probably finish off my sample, but I will definitely not order this one.

It makes me sad, it’s sort of like a blend between hot cocoa and a cider… but with coconut! Sigh.

Tealizzy

That’s too bad. Sorry it wasn’t a winner for you!

Courtney

I had high hopes for this one as well but the cinnamon was way too much for me. But it encouraged me onward in my quest for coconut teas haha.

Meh. This tea did nothing for me today. It might be my buds are off, or that it was prepared too weak, but I got a hint of cinnamon and not much else. I got the same feeling with Toasted Marshmallow. It was ok, but not stellar. I might buy 15-20 just for me to try it once or twice more, but honestly, there are other teas that I like so much better anyway, I likely won’t bother.

Day 5 of the 24 Days of Tea

Well no surprise here, I’ve had this one before and have another 225g of it left I’m sure. I’m surprised they put this in the calendar when it’s been discontinued. I do like this tea. It’s not my favourite, but it’s still delicious. I have totally gone to this tea when I’ve needed a chocolate fix and there’s nothing in the cupboard… sometimes a couple pieces is all you need to curb the craving.

I like that it’s organic (yay!)

They put it in the calendar? That seems like a cheap move – a way to unload a bunch of tea they’re trying to get rid of…

Tuscanteal

I know right?!?!?!
When I opened it I was like… uhhhhh I thought this was being discontinued. Now all these people who get this and want Stormy Night can’t actually get it or buy it.

TeaLady441

That’s rough. It’s not even in the web specials anymore.
I hope you like the other teas more!

Dustin

That seems like a marketing opportunity missed! Why would you use space in an item that shows off a variety of your wares for something you can’t/won’t sell consumers in the future?!

Tuscanteal

Considering DavidsTeas is so shiny with their marketing, I was surprised to say the least. I haven’t peaked at the tea list that’s on the back because I am trying to keep things a surprise, but in my head, the music of my life that was playing was “Wah Wahhh Wawaaaahhhh”

This was just meh for me. The chocolate was there but it reminded me too much of Dr. Chocolate or Super Chocolate. It is ok as kind of a Mexican hot chocolate, but not even close to what I was expecting. The flavours don’t really meld well together in my opinion.
Oh well, so many other delicious chocolate teas to choose from!

This is alright, but not as good as I was expecting when I first bought it. The chocolate is there, and the cinnamon, but the vanilla tastes a little weird. I think it’s because of the coconut. Mehhhh.

Trying this one again!
All this week, I’ve slept so poorly. I’ve been struggling to fall asleep at night. My sweet husband is away and I miss him… Only two more sleeps to go though!
But this morning… haha this morning was interesting. I ended up over sleeping! I woke up at 4:50 a.m., with a headache that was just a pounding. I think I was dehydrated and over tired,… So, I got up and had a glass of water and went back to bed were I was finally able to sleep! The dreaded alarm went off… and off… and off… Mothing could get me out of bed. When I finally did… I realized I was probably going to be late for work!
So I made this one quickly as I was getting ready to head out the door. Yaay for tea timers and kettles that auto shut off!

Anyway, I made this one with my new DavidsTea measuring spoon, which is going to take a bit to get use to its size, and let it steep as I brushed my teeth.

I added milk and sugar to it, and it tastes awesome. I love the smoother than silk reference in the info. It’s so fitting. This tea does have some kick to it, but it’s not overwhelming. And it does have some very nice smooth flavours coming out in the chocolate and coconut and vanilla. I wish this one didn’t brew up so murky in my steeper, but really, that’s not a big deal.

This one would make a good latte! I may try that one next!

This is a tea version of hot chocolate. That is all I have to say.

Storm of…chocolate? David really was up to something when he crafted this. It’s true, you really need a big amount to taste the black tea base, coconut and vanilla. This is primarily malty chocolate and cinnamon.
Conversely, it is delightful and does the trick. It reminds me of my favorite swedish dessert, the Pepparkakor (spicy cinnamon cookies). Actually, I’m going to make some and dip them in Stormy Night. On a stormy night. How comforting and cute.
