From DAVIDsTEA

Toast master
Everyone loves a camping trip in the fall. Fresh air, beautiful scenery, hungry bears – ah, the great outdoors. Well, okay, we’ll admit it. We’re only in it for the marshmallows. Nothing beats a freshly toasted marshmallow straight from the campfire. But what if you want to satisfy your sweet tooth without going camping? Try this tea. It’s a sweet, toasty black tea blend with cinnamon, brittle and…you guessed it! Mini marshmallows. Now you can enjoy your favourite outdoorsy treat without a hungry bear in sight.

Ingredients: Black tea, marshmallows, brittle pieces, cinnamon, allspice, kukicha green tea.

So there’s a wee bit of a smokey note to this tea. I say “a wee bit” because I noticed it but it didn’t set off my asthma. My mother may disagree though, because she said she came downstairs from her bedroom afraid that something in the house was burning. The ingredients just say “black tea” though, not “lapsang souchong” so I think it’s just the flavouring. It does certainly catch a hint of smoke in the smell though, as well as something else which reminded me strongly of some sort of hard booze. Unfortunately, I can’t place what. Rum, maybe?

I was perturbed by the sheer number of twigs that appeared to be in this blend until I noticed the ingredients also listed “kukicha.” OH. Well, then. Of course, thinking it was solely a black tea at that point, I had already poured just-boiled water over it, but it seemed to hold up well regardless. I am totally unfamiliar with kukicha green tea by itself, unfortunately, so I have no idea what it is contributing to the taste.

The tea itself is surprisingly laid-back and mellow. I really expected more punch to it, but it’s not there. That’s okay; it’s quite nice regardless, with a mild sweet spice to it and a creaminess at the back. I felt it was a little weak though, even at a 4 minute steep. So I naturally did what you’d do to any weak black tea – right? – and poured milk into it. I mean, why not?

It’s great with some milk, warm and comforting. But…overall, it’s just a wee bit bland, oddly enough. I’d take either Pumpkin Chai or Glitter & Gold over this one, yet I also feel like this is maybe one that could grow on me. I don’t normally review on the first cup – I like to let the impressions of several cups come together – so I may come back to this one and re-review anything about this tea I may have missed.

I have seen so many reviews for this tea recently, even the mediocre ones make me want to try it just to see what the fuss is about haha

Josie Jade and Cavocorax have been discussing Toasted Marshmallow recently and it made me wanna have a sip too.
i used a teabag for a change. i decided i’m gonna try using tea bags for teas that tend to have floaties and gummy residue in general. you know the ones. the gummy residue on top of some cups tends to really distract from the enjoyment for me so i’m sure this will be helpful.
the scent of this tea is really delicious and weird. it smells like marshmallows,… but it doesn’t.
it brews a golden foggy honey color. i guess it’s slightly too sweet of a cup for me. plus i wish it had more cinnamon in it. something sweet with a kick. i’ll try adding a cinnamon stick next time i brew this! great ideas, i’m full of ‘em!
i have a nice amount of this tea left and i’ll save it for dessert on the weekends. yummm

A much different cup of tea than what I normally like but I can’t stop drinking this! I started off with 100g and was already getting low so I’ve went out and stocked up on another 150.

It pretty much tastes the way it is supposed to, very toasty, a tad woodsy, a hint of marshmallow, and a sweetness at the end. Honestly, my only critique may be that it’s too sweet for my liking. Other than that, David has a lot of genius.

The whole fall davidstea collection has really got me excited (after all, it is the best season!) so here’s a picture of my brand new mug that I am enjoying some fall davidstea in. http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m9p7h5WC601rpx5rco1_400.jpg

Very pretty!

CupofTree

That looks awesome! I had to cave and get the whole forest set. Really excited. Where did you get your coaster?

noordelijk

@CupofTree I got them at Chapters (Canada’s version of Border’s, basically). I’m honestly considering, come christmas time when everyone is getting their trees, making my own from the stumps.

Finished off the last of my sample today – thanks, Courtney, for giving me a chance to try that one!

Definitely not something I’ll be ordering, but I can see why people like it. It’s sweet and flavorful and a nice dessert-y type tea.

This tea tasted somewhat like hot cinnamon toast crunch cereal. I kept trying to pin down what the flavor was and why it was so familiar. Originally, I made this tea without sugar or milk. I almost NEVER put milk in tea. However, when I added milk to this tea it really made the flavors JUMP out of the cup in a much more dimensional way. It also helped with the mouthfeel by giving the tea additional creaminess. This was an interesting blend, one I am happy I got to try. Thank you KallieBoo! for sending me this sample.

This tea is super good!

Got 50g of this, not knowing what to expect from it.
Smell: Allspice is definitely the first thing that comes to me. It’s quite strong, but it’s not overwhelming by any means.
Taste is quite nice. I like it. I added just a small amount of rock sugar and some milk and it was a nice creamy tea. I found it to not be a strong marshmallow tea, but it was a nice tea. It was kind of more like a smores, without the chocolate.
I’ll definitely enjoy this tea.

As a side note, I really love this rock sugar instead of white sugar, but does anyone else find it frustrating that it takes so long for it to dissolve? Or is it just me?

As a huge fan of dessert teas and chai teas, this tea played a perfect melody on my tea tasting heart strings! If all the other teas in the world disappeared only to leave this one behind, I don’t think I would complain!

I was a little hesitant of how delicious this tea would be due to the fact that upon opening the package all I saw were little tiny marshmallows. “Where… where are the other ingredients!” They were there, just at the very bottom of the pouch (international shipping does that I suppose). Upon looking at it I really resigned myself into typing up a review saying that this tea needed, well, more tea in it and less “other stuff”. But surprisingly the taste of black tea is potent enough to still shine through.

I don’t even know where to really begin reviewing how deliciously and awesomely amazing this tea is. All I can say is that if you like chai, dessert teas, or holiday (spice like) flavored teas, then this is the tea of your dreams.

I’m going to have to do some serious stocking up on this stuff…

I went into this one with trepidation, having so far very bad luck with any of the teas David has done with “brittle pieces”. Dry the scent doesn’t match what I have ever had as a toasted marshmallow, but really, how much of a scent does one have other than burnt sugar?

First sips I was . . . mixed. It didn’t suck, so I sipped on, adding a half teaspoon of sugar. This brought out a few flavours but still it wasn’t my toasted marshmallow. It was more as if the marshmallow’d been cooked in an oven with spices rather than open a fire. It was missing that smokey amazing goodness which was the whole reason I’d roast marshmallows in the first place. I’m the queen of doing them so they’re just ever so lightly brown and are soooo delicious and no burnt taste to be found, just smoke.

I’m still on the search for my summer marshmallow tea. I have the custom adagio mix here still, which has the smoke but not the sweet, so I may try them together to see what that gives me. Maybe my marshmallow dreams still can come true?

SIPDOWN! A little sad, because I think it’s been discontinued, but it wasn’t really a favorite even though it was good. One of those that didn’t really taste like you hoped.

I received some of this in a swap and loved it. I thought I posted a note. I feel that I remember it being marshmallow like. My first impression was that unlike two other smore teas I’ve tried these marshmallows actually melted.

This time around although very yummy, I didn’t find it as good as the first time. Although I didn’t really get to enjoy it the way it deserves between all the hustle and bustle of work and my sickly feeling tummy. I kinda wish I would actually get sick so I had a legitimate reason not to go to work, even though there is no one to cover for me.

Anywho, I will wait to give this a numerical rating until I have had the time to enjoy it properly.
