Buttercream

Lovely lovely lovely. Sweet and lightly creamy with a vague fruitiness. The chamomile really brings it all together and brings it closer to a buttercream (ish) flavour. It gets better and better as it cools, and in fact I like it best iced.

I’m not huge on white tea but I really enjoy this. And to think I left it untouched in my cupboard for so long after a bad first impression. I think I must have just understeeped it on my first try.

Buttercream smells divine! I could live in my Buttercream tin and die a happy woman.
This tea is creamy, sweet, and quite delicious BUT I wish the chamomile were a little less strong. I’m not a huge chamomile fan, and when this tea is freshly brewed the chamomile overpowers the other flavors for me. Once the tea cools it has a far more Buttercream(y) flavor. It’s still an overall good tea.

I am so sad that I didn’t get more of this tea. I have really grown to like it.
So smooth, sweet, and calming.
The second steeping is just as good as the first.
So nice for a cold winters day here in Canada.
I will miss you buttercream when you are gone :(

Sip down of buttercream – I left enough for a small pot. My stash is getting out of control and I really need to finish older teas to make space for new ones!

I have a love / hate relationship with this tea. I love the smell but I don’t like the chamomile. I do hope DT brings this tea back for others to enjoy!

However, today I’m needing that relaxing chamomile – I got a evening at home to study Korean. I should be going to jiu jitsu, but last night I armbarred someone, but when I fell to the ground to finish them off I got shinned in the head by the pair next to us. So I got a tender head today and probably should take it easy. Time to relax with some Buttercream!

Oh, wow! it’s been ages (read as: two months) since I’ve made anything of my meager existence here! Since this is my first post in a while I felt the occasion should be marked with an “antiquated” tea: Buttercream.

It’s been near exactly a year since this tea made it’s debut and I still have half a tin. That’s not to say I’ve been unable to finish it out of dislike- to the contrary! I’ve been hoarding it in wait of the returning winter and now the time has finally arrived to awaken it from it’s long slumb…ok, maybe that’s taking it to indulgent extremes.

To the point, Buttercream smells like sweetened mangoes, chamomile, and unicorns. The liquid is a charming light gold and has a distinct buttery (almost greasy) creaminess to it akin to the tea’s namesake. It feels strange to call Buttercream a tea when the chamomile and its’ fruit allies are stealing the show. Whatever kind of white tea is in this is vastly overshadowed, although some of the floral sweetness may be attributed to the leaves. The white tea is more apparent in some steeping than in others.

I have fond memories of drinking this outside, on the front steps, after I’d finished raking the leaves and being perplexed as to how the delicious drink that tastes like icing and cake filling doesn’t also look like icing. Very puzzling, very indulgent. I miss eating the thumb sized mango pieces in the blend.

I expected to love this tea!! but no, I did not :(
The creamy butter taste hides the “white” (I can’t stand that about many DT brews!! many points lost for that in my rating here) part and mixes oddly with the caramel note, almost reminding me of rooibos in an odd way that I can’t quite identify.
The second steep was better, less overwhelming, as expected! More delicate and bright. I could have gone for a third steep but didn’t really care to. Atleast I didn’t need to add any sugar.
Overall, I did enjoy it, marginally… and of course it was nice to have tried it- esp since I was in a rush and had no time for trying one of the many lovely samples I recieved from Jenn!
Anyhow, I really miss posting here as often as I once did. Hopefully Rogers will get off their lazy a$$es and hook me up!

Happy New Year’s Eve, Steepsterites! I hope everyone has something just right for them to do tonight, whether it is a party, or curling up quietly with a cup of tea at home! This is my last tea of 2011, something sweet and shiny to ring in the new year. A little early, but you get what I mean.

I received a very generous sample of this (among other samples of delicious, delicious tea) from Aisling of tea. Wow. I love this tea. Its going in my very next order, for sure. The dry mix smells exactly like icing. I love icing. Even on crappy cake. I love the pure exquisite sugar rush and tooth-achingly sweet taste of icing. I knew this tea had to be right up my alley.

The brewed tea smelled more of chamomile than of icing, I noticed immediately when I poured the brewed tea. It also looks like chamomile, with that lovely yellow color. When I first tasted it, I was disappointed not to find it sweet. I was sure that evoking something like icing, I’d have to be able to pick up a trace of sweetness. Especially after the scent of the dry tea. Nope. Not really. But wait, not all is lost. I got chamomile, and a bit of mango, though it was more generic fruity rather than screaming “mango!”, and I got creamy and buttery, which I suspect is the white tea.

It works, people! My palate works! I actually could identify individual flavor elements! You have no idea how happy this makes me! I’m actually pretty sure I’m at the opposite end of the taste abililty spectrum from a supertaster. So to actually have a tea that I can identify flavors in? Is amazing. I’m in love.

Had this iced yesterday on the way to work, yum yum yum! It really did taste like buttercream, very creamy and sweet. I agree with whoever said a touch of vanilla would help, but this certainly hit the spot yesterday! I have a lot of love for this tea, but I need to try it a few more times before deciding to stock up or not. I am very, very pleased to find this one isn’t just traces of white tea loaded down and made heavy by fruit like Mango Madness, Cherry Potion, or Pom Power.

Firstly this smells sweet and creamy both before and after brewing and the mixture looks like large natural, pale leaves…similar looking to natural sage.

I had to check what buttercream was and the internet says that here in the UK some people make it into icing for their cakes. I think I remember reading in a book that Americans (and possibly Canadians) also have this as a drink similar to milk…that I cannot imagine as it’s super sweet.

Anyway the colour is a golden yellow and with the first sip I can taste subtle mango and slightly sweet chamomile. It seems that the more of this that you drink the sweeter it gets!
It’s strange…I’m more of a savoury person than sweet but this is an interesting experience. It does taste like liquid frosting and I bet if you were to add sugar to it then it would taste even more like it. However for me it would be too sweet.

In simple terms imagine a warm, sweet, creamy, lightly fruity yet with floral highlights cup of tea and you have a good idea of what this tastes like.

Overall: First cup is interesting, I may try adding milk next time to see how it turns out…so far it’s nice but going to take a savoury girl time to get used to.

I got this in a trade with Awkward Soul. I am glad I got some, since I don’t see it on the website anymore.

Don’t have time to write a long note at the moment, but I really like it. Very creamy taste and the mango helps and adds a nice after taste.

I would recommend this to white tea people and chamomile lovers.
