From DAVIDsTEA

Like all amazing recipes, this one took years to perfect – and it was totally worth the wait. This tea miraculously captures the flavour of freshly-baked banana bread. The taste of real banana slices blends perfectly with almonds and the sweetness of dates and currants. It’s fragrant, with all the warmth of a loaf hot from the oven. As deliciously comforting as mama’s special recipe, but without the calories.

Ingredients:
Dates, currants, almonds, banana, artificial flavouring.

Price: $8.98 per 50g

I know I know, I keep drinking this tea. It’s because it travels so well. There are only two downsides to this tea:

-since getting back into tea again, it’s the only tea I’ve discovered that I actually really like in my travel mug.

-and it’s also a really heavy tea. So like evolvingness said, this could become quite the expensive habit. But one I’m ok with having.

I do need to find other really good travel-mug teas though, because I don’t want to get sick of this one.

In other news, it’s been a long, exhausting, and stressful week at work. I have a really exciting weekend planned with my sisters coming up though, so definitely lots to look forward to. I do wish I could be more candid on here, but alas it’s not even remotely private…

Preparation
2 tsp 12 OZ / 354 ML
Mookit

Hope you enjoy your weekend :) Hang in there!

Courtney

I had that happen with my Timolino too. Eventually I just enjoyed Laoshan Black in it. Though after my tea ‘hiatus’ of sorts, I had Campfire Blend the other day and it was awesome in it.

Evol Ving Ness

Buttered Rum and Salted Caramel usually travel well too.

@mookit, thanks! I’m really looking forward to it. This morning I seriously contemplated staying home, but decided against it.
@Courtney: I know what you mean about coming back to tea. I think we’ll find our footing eventually! glad you’ve rediscovered some gems.
@evolvingness, I have never even tried those two flavours, so I should probably get on that. Thanks for the suggestion. So glad I’m not the only one extremely picky about which teas aren’t ruined by travel mugs.

TeaTiff

Have a great weekend with your sisters. I love sister time, it doesn’t happen often enough.

TheKesser

I love straight black teas for travel mugs

Kristal

Have a great weekend!

The more I read reviews of this tea the more I want to drink it :P

keychange

@TeaTiff: I completely agree. I feel so lucky to have sisters!
@theKesser: noted. I’m going to try straight blacks next. Thanks!
@Kristal: oh, I think you’ll enjoy it. I hope you love it as much as I do.

I’m not a fan of nut tea or banana tea, so I didn’t go into this with high hopes. I was pleasantly surprised to find that this tea has a very light taste overall, preventing neither flavour from becoming overpowering. The dry tea doesn’t have the most pleasant smell. Brews a pale yellow, creates a thin oily layer, and needs only the smallest amount of sweetening. A delicate, subdued drink great for relaxing with.

I absolutely love this tea! I even made sure to hoard a whole bunch of it as well since it’s quick to finish because of how big the pieces in the mix are. It smells delightful and as a fan of banana-flavored things (let alone banana bread !!!), this was an instant hit for me. I definitely enjoy it hot/warm and sometimes I’ll add a bit of milk to it for extra flavor. If you’re a fan of banana-flavored or baked goods tea, I would definitely recommend.

So tea drinking hasn’t really been happening for me lately. I all but stopped last week and have been pushing myself this week to drink more tea because I miss the nightly ritual.

Anyway. This was last night’s tea. I was undecided on what to have and only had enough of this one left for one cup, so why not take the easy sipdown? The first steep went about ten minutes and I finally got banana! Delicious, sweet, realistic banana that got a little bit of a sour edge toward the end of the sip. Fantastic, though – I didn’t think I’d get anything close to that solid of a flavor out of this one! My second steep was very nutty and sweet and sadly lacking in banana.

I enjoyed this one, but I don’t think it’s something I’ll be sad to go without. Nice to try one of DavidsTea’s better loved blends that I missed out on the first time.

This is a quite nice brew, if you like banana bread. It’s definitely got strong banana flavour, and there is a nice volume of nut, without being overpowering, and somehow it achieves breadness in there. Maybe because I’m expecting it? For whatever reason, it’s there, and this is a very nice evening drink. I don’t tend to buy a lot of herbals because I mainly like my tea as a stimulant in the morning, and I just love black tea so much. I ended up with this one because it was in the “Back from the Dead” collection and I have no power to resist spooky things. I’m glad I got the chance to try it, but as nice as it is I’m not an enormous banana fan, so I don’t think I would stock it. Which is good because it disappeared from the store very quickly.

My first couple of sips, I thought it tasted more like banana pudding than nut bread. As the cup cooled the nuttiness came out. Me likey. Too bad it’s a small seasonal sample. I used half the sample for one cup. At least it’ll be a quick sipdown.

Decided to work on sipping down this oldish tea.

I don’t knowwwww how I feel about this.

On one hand it’s a pretty good herbal option to drink at night – here it is 11:30 and i’ve just finished it…

but on the other hand it’s gotta have Stevia in it, it’s leaving a super weird taste in my mouth.

I also feel that they would have had better luck creating a “banana bread” tea if they’d used some kind of bready, malty black tea as a base, rather than a bunch of random fruity things.

On top of that, i wish I could photograph my steeper for you because it’s straight up nastayyy…. it looks like someone threw up in it. Mushy chunks of who knows what.

Sorry to be gross, but it was very offputting.

So, to sum up…this isn’t terrible, but i sure wouldn’t buy it today. and I’m questioning how I’m going to polish off the rest of the bag asap. Cold brew?? hmmmmm.

Courtney

Have you tried Happy Banana from RiverTea? Truly delightful.

Courtney

I did enjoy mixing this one with guayusa though.

ohfancythat

I have not tried anything from RiverTea thus far!

just plain guayasa? never had it… what’s that do to the taste?

Courtney

Guayusa tastes like rainforest to me haha, so I like it on it’s own, but it’s strong so I usually mix it up and add other teas. Tonight I had it with creamy rhubarb herbal.

VariaTEA

I found this was more bearable with some milk. I didn’t like it at first but it grew on me. However, I definitely understand the gross steeper because I remember how mine looked when I brewed it.

ohfancythat

Courtney what does rainforest taste like? Haha

VariaTEA maybe I will try that!

Courtney

Haha kind of like wet leaves. Earthy, but not in a soil way. :P

This tea, I should actually try to buy. I got a partial package in a purchase from another Steepster-ite (I probably should try to find her name; I got a few teas from her).

I taste banana…it is very obviously banana. But, it tastes more like the banana bread than just straight banana. I taste roasted nuts, but honest to gosh…it just tastes like liquid banana bread.

I do sweeten all of my teas when I drink them. I don’t like unsweetened tea, though I could have gotten away with less sweetener.

When it cooled down, it tasted completely different, like burnt nuts. I threw it out. Note to self: finish it while it is hot!

I like the smell and the taste of this tea. I too don’t understand how is this mixture called tea.
There is not one ounce of tea in it.
I am starting to get a bit turned off by artificial flavouring and try to stick to the natural David’s teas.
