From Chang Yun (Dragon Tea House)

This 2012 pu-erh is composed of a select grade of tea compressed into a small birds nest shape. The mini tuo cha uses a higher grade of tea than most, resulting in a big body and smooth finish. It hails from Yunnan province, made from the selected tea trees there. Its flavor is mildly sweet.

The infusion of this exquisite tea is light brown with a rose hue, yielding the earthy flavor and rich aroma. Each 8 gram mini tuo cha is individually wrapped and perfect for a small teapot or can be broken apart to accommodate a single serving.

About 8 grams each. Each piece makes 1-5 cups of tea.

Brewing Guide: The best water temperature is 100°C or 212°F — let the water reach its boiling point. Rinse once or twice and allow the tea to steep for a short period. The tea gives off a strong sweet aroma with a soft gentle aftertaste. Like most pu-erh, one mini tuo cha can be steeped multiple times – up to 10 times.

Over the past week I have been sipping on two lovely “dark teas” (both are new to me) – this one and an 8685 Gong Ting Puer in Tangerine (22g).

A lovely scent while brewing which produces a thick and mellow taste with the sweetness of a floral honey. This is high quality leaf with the capability to maintain flavor through many resteeps – I stopped at 10. The first two steeps are a bit harsh and earthy but those following are more gentle and quite lovely.
