From Capital Teas

Hailing from Anxi in the Fujian region of China our Organic Ti Kuan Yin Oolong brings forth the best of semi oxidized Oolongs. Steeped in the tradition Min-Nam style against the wondrous WuYi mountains, our Slimming Oolong delivers a beautiful pale golden color and delicious floral notes of honeysuckle and citrus.

As for the slimming properties, it is a Chinese custom to drink this tea with meals in order to feel sated and refreshed without over indulging in food. To truly enjoy this tea, it is recommended that you re-steep the leaves up to 5 times in one day with each re-steeping taking the tea closer to the height of flavor.

Health Benefits:
Articles from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggest that drinking oolong teas reduced body fat and inclusion of catechins may help in life-style related diseases.
Oolong tea can be used as an astringent cleanser for the skin to help with problems associated with acne.
The polyphenols in oolong help to promote free radical elimination and improve overall health.
Ingredients:

Chinese Oolong Tea

Brewing Instructions:

Hot Tea: use 1.5 tsp. of tea per 6 ounces of water. Heat water to 195 °F and steep for 3-5 minutes. If bolder flavor is desired, increase the amount of tea used.

So I had a whole new tasting note typed up and then Steepster ate it in a fit of pique. (Or, unstable server hosting… take your pick.)

After several months exploring the tea world and drinking oolongs from near and far, I’ve returned to this one to downgrade the rating a LOT. I’ve learned a few things, including what a really good oolong tastes like, and what I like in oolongs. This oolong from Capital Teas contains neither.

The flavor is overall rather weak and flat. It is missing the subtlety that I look for in oolongs, and is almost sour/bitter.

I won’t be repurchasing this after I’m done with the tin.

This is a mediocre generic oolong. Might be a good introduction to oolongs, but its not good for much more.
