From Camellia Sinensis

Produced in 2004 by Changtai Tea Group and stored in Hong Kong since, this Sheng style Pu er tea represents high standards in aging techniques.

Among collectors, Changtai is a well-known name. Their teas are reputed for the quality of their material as well as their aging potential. Kept in traditional storage for over 15 years, this one is no exception. Deep aromas of root vegetables, earthy fragrances and resinous scents, it gives the impression of gardening under the sun. As with most aged teas, it can also be steeped many times.

Gongfu!

Steeped up a session of this beautiful eighteen year old sheng. This puer is something that I like to pull out whenever I need one of those “you deserve something absolutely fucking incredible” kind of moments and today it completely delivered. Even from the rinse, this is a powerful puer with some of the most deeply resinous notes of camphor I’ve experienced in a sheng. It’s so, so earthy yet clean tasting in a way that reminds me of the fresh, sweet aroma of pulling up carrots, beets, and other root vegetables from mineral rich potting soil after a heavy, heavy storm where the intoxicating aroma of petrichor still hangs in the air. There are undertones of clove and cassia, and a bourbon-like finish. Truly one of those teas that I could probably write an essay on just because I love it so much. It just takes me to such a serene and grounded place as I sip it…
