Okay, so I have to be honest and admit that I have no idea what a tamarind actually is. That being said, I love this tea! It’s naturally sweet and smooth and fruity (the fruit flavor seems citrusy to me, but I may be wrong) and one of those teas where the flavoring mingles so perfectly with the base that you can’t imagine it any other way. There’s just something special about Butiki’s blends…I’m going to be so sad when I finish mine off for good!

OMG NOM NOM NOM!

I really love this tea and have been waiting for it for a long time. And I finally have it, and I love it! Love love love!! I always liked Tamarind Pop, but found it was a little muted or understated…but here, with the gui fei base instead of black, the tamarind flavour really shines! There is a sweet honey caramel fruit with a lithe juicy tartness. It’s PERFECT!

If anyone has some of this that they do not like, I will buy it off of you, or trade for it. Yes, I like this that much! I have an ounce of this, minus what my friend and her daughter tried before sending, and it is not enough! I will cry when this is gone.

Aww! I only have 1 or 2 tsp left, and I’m saving it for summer. I want iced tamarind oolong.

Plunkybug

Oh no! I know you liked it. I’d never take it from someone who likes it. But anyone who wants to unload it on someone else, I would gladly take it. ;)

Oh, this one is really nice! I do like the base tea, although my tummy’s been upset and the oolong didn’t sit too well with me today.

The tamarind flavour is really neat. I don’t really know how to describe it, just fruity and floral and tamarind-y.

This was a great suggestion on my part! ;) Hopefully the person this was a gift for likes it as much as I do!

Kittenna

Ugh, I hate when my tummy rejects tea. Mine has been a bit unhappy tonight and therefore I haven’t had much, which sucks because I need to empty some infusers so I can have different teas at work tomorrow.

Kittenna

Also, glad you enjoy :D So much better than the original blend IMO.

OMGsrsly

I totally agree! I like this base a LOT more. I look forward to having it again, and trying it iced. Unfortunately I sometimes have to be careful with oolongs. My first really bad tea drunk (I was so unpleasantly woozy!) was with an oolong!

Plunkybug

I can’t wait to try mine. I think it is coming soon. My friend and I are doing an exchange, and this is one she is sending me in exchange for the crapton of teas I recently sent her.

Kittenna dropped off a sample of this but it originally comes from OMGsrsly so thank you both for the share! I was a little hesitant about this one because (1) I wasn’t a lover of Tamarind Pop and (2) I am not an oolong fan. However, when I opened the package, it smelled amazing which got me a little more enthusiastic.

Anyways, brewed up I will definitely say that this is much better than Tamarind Pop. It is like a cup of liquid caramel combined with a fair amount of oolong. It’s a tea oolong lovers would certainly enjoy but seeing as that’s not me, I will enjoy this cup and be content with me sample.

OMGsrsly

I still haven’t tried this. :D Hopefully the post gets my parcel to me soon!

Kittenna

Ooh, I should check if I have a tracking number. I think the receipt is in my purse still… Anyhow – I ended up buying 2 ounces of this for myself on Boxing Day. It is damn good.

OMGsrsly

Wow, you REALLY like it! :)

Kittenna

Maaayyyybe.

Kittenna dropped this one off with me, but i feel like this is from omgsrsly’s bag. I had a couple steepings of this one tonight and i am a fan! Again, an oolong that i am a fan of. I like this a lot better than the tamarind pop whatever tea that stacy made, though i didn’t hate that one. :) Christmas evening tea! deeeelicious!

Kittenna

Yes – this is from OMGsrsly :) I merely stole some from her baggie and gave it to you since I though it would interest you.

Oh wow I like this tea.

I’m really glad I bought it, and I might try to throw another order Butiki’s way before the store retires. This is a solid oolong base. The brewing instructions scared me a bit, as four minutes seemed like a long time. However I followed the brewing instructions. I’m glad I did.

Anyway, the tea. The individual leaves are beautifully rolled, and they opened up and expanded wonderfully. The liquor of the tea is light, honey colored.

The tea is sweet, and I get strong notes of honey. The tamarind is just there, a light tropical note. I assume the honey taste is also a result of the tamarind.

Anyway, this is a great cup of tea. I’m very excited about steeping this a second time. It’s really lovely.

The honey is from the tea. The leaves have been bitten by leafhoppers, which creates prominent honey notes. You can also find these same honey notes in Oriental Beauty teas and certain Taiwanese Black teas.

Kat

Oh thanks for the clarification. We discussed it in chat, and I had pretty much reached that conclusion. Anyway, this is a really special tea, then. The base is really exceptional, and I’d love to try it on its own. (Might have to order some more tea).

2022 Sipdown 42/365!

Now this one is a technical sipdown, because it’s only packet 1 (note: it’s from January 2015! 7 years old!) Not as much tamarind flavour as there was previously, and I forgot that with gui fei, a longer infusion results in a better cup, so I understeeped a bit. But it was still good and evoked more Butiki memories. I might actually cry when I finish the last cup of my remaining flavoured Butiki teas (I have a bunch of unflavoured too, but those are more possible to obtain again).

I’m with ya on the Butiki crying…
