From Bitterleaf Teas

Made from Nanben village untended/left to grow material, this tea is our sole offering from Mengsong for this year. If you enjoyed our previous years’ Plum Beauty or Natural Habitat from nearby areas, then this tea serves as a great stand-in, sharing many of the same traits.

Those traits include a gentle kuwei (pleasant bitterness) that is accompanied by a floral fragrance and mineral sweetness. This tea exhibits a slight roughness, but while remaining quite pleasant and without being too abrasive. One notable difference with this tea is a slight citrus peel note that stands out compared to any other Mengsong teas we’ve experienced.

Overall, this tea continues the trend for the area of offering high value, coming from an excellent environment, but at a very accessible price.

Region: Nanben, Mengsong, Xishuangbanna Prefecture
Picking Period: March 22-26

A good example of one of my favourite areas, but also not exceptional.

The aroma is sweet, floral and fruity. The taste is more bitter, sour, and mineral on the other hand. The tea is very bright at the moment with notes of rapeseed and green apples.
