From Bigelow

TIMES CHANGE. OUR TEA DOESN’T.

When I first created this tea, it was to share my love of Spearmint. That was the inspiration to blend handpicked tea from the beautiful tea gardens around the world with American grown Spearmint. Today we continue to hear that this is still the perfect blend, which is why we’re excited to change the name, but of course not the recipe, to better reflect how people feel about my tea. Thank you for continuing to enjoy my special tea – Eunice J. Bigelow

We are excited to share that we changed the name of our tea to Perfectly Mint which better reflects the perfect blend of American grown mint and tea.

Feeling like the market needed a refreshing mint tea, Eunice Bigelow took to the kitchen to create one of her first blends for the company. She started with a rich, flavorful black tea and then blended just the right amount of spearmint. One sip and you will see Perfectly Mint is clean and smooth with the perfect mint finish!

Ingredients: black tea, spearmint

Taste Profile: Strong refreshing spearmint with underlying mild smoky notes
Aroma: Enveloping aroma of soothing spearmint
Liquor: Dark amber
Recommended Temperature: 208º F

STEEPING INSTRUCTIONS
Be sure to start with fresh cold water and bring to a rolling boil. Pour over tea bag, steep for 4 minutes (or whatever time you like), remove bag (but no squeezing please!).

For Iced Tea by the Glass: Steep a little longer. Pour over ice.

I LOVE spearmint, so it was only a matter of time before I discovered this tea! The smell was SOOOOOO GOOOOOOD in the bag, so I was optimistic that it would be good, despite some of the sagging reviews I’ve seen. I noticed the steep time was really short, and decided to try it that way, keeping the bag handy for adding it back to the cup if necessary. It was- the steep time listed on the box was WAY too short, and left me with some amber colored water. I put it back in for a bit, and was rewarded with some very decent minty black tea. Not as good as Twinings, but decent, all the same. I can’t get the Twinings Pure Mint in my area(you know, the one with black tea and spearmint), so this will do until I can get some :) It’s a pretty nice one, IMO.

I had a cup of this tea earlier today. I added some sugar This is a good tasting medium strength spearmint taste with alittle bit of good black tea.
I have been having bad toothache and ear ache lately that has really been hurting and stressing me out and not helping the panic attacks and anxiety I deal with. I am going to get a tooth pulled tomarrow which is stressful to me to.

Smells just like Wrigley’s Gum; refreshing cold-steeped in the fridge.

This tea is a nice mint tea. I like that it is spearmint, instead of peppermint – it’s a nice change! I too, love to sniff the bag/packet – this tea smells fantastic! It’s good for when I want mint tea with some caffeine.

While this tea is good hot, it is EXCELLENT iced. I follow the directions on the box to make it as iced tea (pour 1 cup of boiling water over 6 bags, steep 10 minutes, add to pitcher with 3 additional cups cold water). I’m not a big iced tea fan, but this makes minty refreshing iced tea that doesn’t need to be sweetened, thanks to the natural sweetness of the mint. Good stuff!

Hey thanks for the review…did you know that Rachel Ray just rated this the best tea in the black tea/herb category?

Thanks for the review.

Glad to hear it – it’s definitely a good one in my book, and very popular in my house – my boyfriend drinks about a gallon of it iced a week! :D

Mint and I don’t always get along. Somedays we’re perfect for eachother, others we’re not talking to eachother at all. So when I pulled this one out of the work stash, I decided to see if it’s a good Mintday or a bad Mintday.

It’s a meh Mintday. This isn’t too bad; a lot less minty than the bag smells (which is good, since the bag smelled really strong). The black tea could be stronger, but it’s still there.

I’m not a spearmint fan, though. Can’t stand toothpastes or gum flavored with it, and it’s looking like it could be the same way with this tea. Though it tastes much, much better than toothpaste!!

A review of Plantation Mint Tea by Bigelow Tea

Company: Bigelow Tea
Tea Name: Plantation Mint
Tea Type/Varietal: black
Region:
Steeping Vessel/Amt. Leaf: cup / leaf
Liquor Color: light brown
Leaf Characteristics:

Steepings

1st Steeping:
Water temperature: 190 Fahrenheit
Time: 3 minutes

I had some loose leaf mint tea and decided to have this plantation mint tea in tea bag just to see how it compares…or to continue with the mint thing going on.

With one tea bag in my cup I add the boiled water to the cup and leave it to steep for a few minutes. Tea’s color is light brown and tea’s aroma that of mint.

I sip and sip the tea with the mint flavoring hitting all the right spots. It is not overly toothpaste like. It a nice cup of tea and I am not surprised since Bigelow teas are a hit with me.

So here is to another wonderful cup of tea from the folks at Bigelow Tea.

It’s all tea bags for me right now as I’m out of loose leaf and have zero cash. This is one of the few I somewhat enjoy. Still not high quality or remarkable, but with a little sugar it’s smooth and comforting.

Smooth mint tea that goes well with chocolate goodies. It also helps to ease digestive embarassments if you’ve overindulged in dinner. Be careful not to oversteep or it can get too strong. Although Bigelow advertises that you can make two cups out of one Plantation Mint tea bag, I found the second cup to be rather weak. I like sniffing the foil pouch the tea bag comes in. I’m not the only one, am I?

I hope sniffing the bag isn’t illegal where I live.

So there have been a couple studies in the near east/Eurasia suggesting that spearmint, like lavender, may help reduce androgen levels. For some ladies with excess hair growth, especially those with PCOS, that may be super awesome. I’m more or less a side show freak, considering the way my hair grows, and so I decided to consume spearmint tea. This was the only tea I could find originally that had spearmint (because Mint Medley was only in the sampler set). It’s actually the best minty tea I’ve ever had sans the natural grow-your-own-and-put-it-in-hot-water kind. I can’t speak for the homeopathic nature of this tea, but it’s kept me calm and happy and hydrated for the last year or two. I take it with milk and sometimes honey. It has a nice smooth black tea base, and the spearmint is strong yet not skunky. I definitely oversteep it, though — the longer, the better.

Why oh why did they put black tea in this? Unlike some of the reviewers here, I wanted the mint and didn’t read the package closely enough to realize that there was black tea in this. so sad! :( I bought the box to share with my friends while on a vacation since I didn’t bring my own teas.

I didn’t know what to do with this. I always drink my blacks teas with milk and sugar, especially those of lesser quality, like the supermarket bagged kind. But I like my mint pure and strong with no additives. This tea suffers from split personality disorder. You should be either robust, dark and earthy or cool, light and refreshing. Pick one, dang it!

Moral of the story? Always read the labels clearly! or Bring your own tea!
