From Adagio Teas

Adagio’s Decaf Vanilla Black combines the pure, sugary-spicy flavor of vanilla with bright Ceylon black tea from Sri Lanka. Soothing, sweet and very ‘beany’ vanilla fragrance (like warm sugar cookies made with fresh vanilla beans). Very well-blended and pleasant astringency in the finish. A gentle, natural decaffeination process retains the delicate shape and flavor of the tea leaves.

Ingredients: decaf ceylon tea, natural vanilla flavor

I was not too keen on this tea. It was nice to have a decaf tea to drink, but the vanilla flavor just tasted fake to me. I tried adding milk to it, which helped a bit, but it’s just not the tea for me.

I think this is the first tea I’ve ever had that I was very on the fence about. On the one hand, this tea smells nice, like a mild, sugary vanilla. Drinking it though was somewhat disappointing. The black tea was definitely in the background, but the vanilla did a poor job of shining through.

Overall, the tea was very mellow and just a little dull. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. Maybe it would be better with sweetener and milk or cream, but I’ve yet to try that. I wouldn’t recommend this, but I would certainly suggest this to someone who is looking for something mildly sweet to sip after dinner or before bed.

This was a sample I got quite a while back at the same time as Adagio’s
plain decaf ceylon, which I did not really like. I figured I wouldn’t really like this much either but had to try it. The vanilla is very artificial, but at least that adds some life to the base tea underneath which is bland and flavorless even though I added plenty of leaf. Soymilk made this a bit better, but the rest of the package is going into the compost… oh well!

I have never had a Decaf tea that had good flavor. The process really seems to drain the leaves.

Harney and Sons does them the best, I have found, The Decaf Comoro and Decaf Paris are pretty good in my book.

I agree that Harney’s decafs are the top of the heap. I drink their Decaf Ceylon (aka Orange Pekoe), Decaf Assam and Vanilla Comoro. My fondest wish is that they would offer a Decaf Keemun or other decaf China black, but that will likely remain just a dream.

I could have guessed I’d enjoy Adagio’s decaf Vanilla. I have tried their vanilla tea before and their decafs are a joy. So I have little to say except that this tea is just what I expected: A good cup of delicious black tea with an excellent vanilla flavor. It is just as tasty as the non-decaf version and it comes alive with sugar and cream. :)

Had this chilled and milky, mixed with hazelnut. Preferred this to drinking it hot, but still isn’t really my thing.

Smells better than it tastes, at least first time ‘round. Steeped for the recommended 3 minutes, will probably try going longer next time. The bitterness doesn’t bother me, its just kind of bland on the whole though. Maybe its because I put flavored creamer in but I’m not really tasting any vanilla, and barely any of the black tea. So, not awful, hell maybe if I did it a certain way it’d be pretty good, but definitely not one I’ll be buying again (feeling pretty grateful that I only got the sampler instead of full size).
