From Adagio Teas

An ancient Hindu legend recounts the story of the mango tree growing from the ashes of the sun princess who had been incinerated by an evil sorceress. When the mango ripened and fell to the ground, the beautiful sun princess emerged. Our bestselling Mango Tea combines the taste of Rooibos tea with the flavor of perfectly ripened mangoes. Sun princess sold separately. Naturally caffeine-free.

This smells like a pine tree… I usually love rooibos so I wasn’t not too worried, more just puzzled. The mango pieces are huge and the sunflower petals looked awesome.
Flavor – this is the first time I have ever tasted any of the “medicinal/cough syrup” notes in a tea. I’m not surprised that this is basically adagio’s lowest rated rooibos. Epic tea fail tonight :(
I asked my mother her opinion. She said “this tastes like something that isn’t food”. I suggested cough syrup and she said “that’s it!”. She kind of liked it actually though. I’ll finish my cup, just because it’s way too late to make anything else. At least my mom liked it!

Bottom line – if you like very syrupy or sweet teas (like my mother does) this might be right up your alley.

This has been my week for trying Rooibos Adagio teas. I recently bought the Rooibos sampler from Amazon (gift card), and I’ve been making a point this week of trying one each day. I have yet to review the vanilla, which I tried yesterday, but I feel more compelled to write a review on this.

Now I love mangos. I love mango ice cream, mango smoothies, this Indian mango chicken curry that I used to have all the time at this restaurant in Cambridge when I spent the majority of my summer there – but I have to say, I was not thrilled with this tea. Which was a bit of a disappointment.

There really wasn’t much of a mango flavor to the tea, and honestly I wasn’t to thrilled with the overall flavor, and I normally like rooibos. (I tend to be a chai, black, and rooibos type of girl). Most the time I spent drinking it felt more of an obligation to finish the pot of tea I brewed, and I found myself thinking fondly of one of the teas I had earlier this week, which I will probably brew up shortly now that I finished this pot. I don’t think I’m gonna even go for a second seep of the mix I used.

Who knows, maybe if I have someone over for tea, they’ll like it better. But for now, this is not a tea for me.

I probably oversteeped this, but I don’t taste any difference from the other times I’ve had it. The rooibos base isn’t bad, but the mango taste is pretty much non-existent. Drinkable, but disappointing… which is how I felt about all of Adagio’s flavored rooibos sample set, really.

Yuck! I normally like rooibos, but this just tastes woody and stale. The mango flavor tastes off. I’m going to dump out this cup. Hopefully I just got a bad batch – Adagio normally makes decent teas. Prepared with stevia.

This one is pretty unexciting. The rooibus is also so small that it tends to make its way through the strainer. This makes me very, very unexcited by this tea. It is I will be quite pleased when it’s gone!

Got to experiment with this tea and it turns out that this makes a pretty nice teapop.

So far I’m 3/4 of the way through the Adagio sample set. I guess I don’t like the flavour of hot mangos. But it is ok, just not may favourite yet.

I’ve had this tea for a while now, so I’m unsure how fresh it is. Not much of a mango taste to it, just seems like general rooibos to me.

It’s a lot more palatable than just plain rooibos for sure. Even plain, the mango flavor covers up the medicinal rooibos flavor that keeps me from drinking unflavored rooibos. However, it’s still heavily scented and kind of ruined my strainer.
