From Adagio Teas

A native of the Mediterranean, peppermint leaves were often used to crown luminaries in ancient Greece and Rome. It continues to be revered for its cooling, crisp aroma, deeply refreshing flavor, and smooth finish. If you have yet to try gourmet peppermint tea, made from just pure peppermint (no added oils or sweeteners), you’ll be pleasantly surprised by its superior flavor.

I drink a lot of peppermint tea. It’s true. I really enjoy the way it tastes, I like the menthol feeling on my tongue and in the back of my throat, and I really enjoy the benefits of it (and the lack of caffeine as well). I know bagged peppermint pretty well.

How awesome is real peppermint? I mean, yeah, in the bag, it’s peppermint. But it’s not like peppermint dust. This is awesome. Amazing. So refreshing and yummy and minty! I used two level teaspoons and followed Adagio’s directions for steeping time and water temperature. The result was a green-yellow liquor that didn’t smell that strongly of peppermint.

But the taste! I still feel the coolness in the back of my throat. I’ve always felt that peppermint has a slightly bitter taste to it. Not this! No bitterness, and after the cooling effect, there’s a faint hint of sweetness. It’s really refreshing. I could drink this all day.

Loose leaf is proving to be super-awesome indeed. Color me impressed!

Glad you liked it! Peppermint got me thru my “Ugh I hate tea but it’s supposed to make you lose weight so I’ll drink it” phase. I was all about mint added to any true tea and dessert teas. It’s interesting now to go back and drink a tea w/ mint in it because I don’t like it as well. Although I do have a faux mojito recipe that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE using Adagio’s white cucumber.

Yuck. I’m a big fan of peppermint and love minty candies, dishes, and desserts, but this had an underlying yuck factor I can’t quite describe. It was muddy rather than bright and refreshing – a great mint POW up front but then a dirtiness right after. I made it for my partner who had a queasy stomach and she really enjoyed it.

I’m refraining from rating this one yet as the problem might be me. I’m frequently problematic.

“I’m frequently problematic” HAHAHA That’s totally something I would say. And it’s true about me too. Love it.

After lunch, I still needed something to drink, to cool me down from lunching outside, but I wanted something tea and caffiene free due. My drawer here at work offered only this and a bag of Tazo Licorice Spice. My tummy says no to the Licorice Spice right now, though it’s not bad herbal.

So the Lock & Lock got rinsed out, and I steeped the peppermint, then added ice. Refresing and cooling. It’s exactly what I need.

Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like this bag I’ve been drinking has significantly least flavor and mintiness. Time to lower the rating :( :( :(

This is actually the first time that I’m having pure peppermint tea as I normally stick to either spearmint or a blend that contains a mix of peppermint and spearmint. I figured it was worth a try as my problems with peppermint when spearmint being fine is rooted in Altoids mints which are different than herbal tea, so peppermint deserves a fair shot in its native form before being written off as being too overpowering for me.

What surprised me the most about this peppermint was the sweetness in the first sip as I normally thought of spearmint as being a sweeter mint. Sure it has the peppermint kick in after the initial sweetness but it is nothing like the bad experience I had with peppermint Altoids in the past. This is a good tea on its own but even better when it is mixed half and half with Adagio’s Spearmint as it really brings out the best of both and shows how even in mint loose leaf is better than a paper filter that can trap the mint oil in the bag instead of letting it get into the tea.

This tea smells so good and the taste is amazing. I put this is my gunmetal green, and in my chamomile too. If you ever want to just breathe in some good, clean, delicious air just inhale this stuff before you steep it—in the canister.

How to survive summer:

Place about 3 Tbsp peppermint tea in 1 L hot water (80⁰C or so). Brew for, say, 10 minutes, or until you remember to take the tea out. Then add another liter of ice and/or cold water. Drink. Repeat until autumn.

Officially the best peppermint tea. I’ve had it in a semi-air tight case and it still tastes very fresh

Not quite a pure tasting note because I used the hot tea to make peppermint hot chocolate but that was amazingly delightful. Just thinking of it makes me want more. It was the best peppermint hot chocolate I have ever had.
