Sipdown 4

This was one of those where I was saving the last little bit because I was too sad to see it go! Luckily it still had some flavor left even though it was a little too old. I love coconut black teas and this was no exception!

Instead of being super coconut-y today, it was more of a subtle marshmallow. Still tasty but not at its best. Now I just have to figure out what my next coconut tea should be

2022 Sipdown 9/365!

And now for some sipdowns! This was another misfiled tea, probably because I meant to finish it due to coconut. Lucky for me, the coconut was still ok here, and I had a delightfully vanilla/caramel coconut cup of black tea as a result. I think it was a bit lighter in flavour than it once was, but still pretty enjoyable.

Sipdown (356)

This smelled really rich while steeping which was disappointing since there is flavour deterioration and so it is coming off a bit flat. There is a shadow of caramel and vanilla but it’s all pretty muted. No rancid coconut thankfully but this was a good time for a sipdown.

Sipdown (586)!

Finished this off in a tea press yesterday; I actually brought it with me to a birthday party. It’s crazy, I’ve been in Montreal a little over two weeks now and I feel like I’ve already been to more social engagements than I went to in the last six months in Regina. The crazy thing is, though, that I’m loving it – like for a very introverted and socially awkward individual I’m having a BLAST networking and getting to know all these different types of people. Plus, the venues have been AMAZING.

The coworker who’s birthday we were celebrating is the one person that I knew before moving out (the one who let me ship all my stuff to her when I was in the process of moving), and it was just at her house but it was a FUN party! Lots of people from our office that I hadn’t had a chance to really meet with that I’m now going to feel really comfortable interacting with at the office (again, YAY for networking!), but also people she knows from other places in Montreal. It was just a great time!

It was also a potluck – and that was such a COOL concept for a birthday party. However, what was even cooler IMO was that literally every person brought something homemade instead of store bought. And, like, really good food: homemade cheesecake, tabouli salad, croissants, pie, mead, etc! It was just really cool and noteworthy to me how much attention and pride this group of people took in making AMAZING home cooked dishes – and things that I would have considered fancier/a step above traditional potluck food. I made tea eggs, of course, but I’ll take about that in a different tasting note…

As for the tea, that was my drink of choice over alcohol since I don’t drink A LOT as it stands and I also can’t afford to hit up a liquor store right now and get something I would actually be interested in. I know I love this tea already, so it was a safe choice for me. I did love the sweet, toasted coconut notes and chocolate body profile though – it was rich and indulgent and a strong enough flavor profile to stand up to all these amazing dishes that we were eating. However, it also had a bit of a burnt sugar note that I don’t know I observed in my previous tasting – I liked it though because that very mild/soft bitter was the right contrast to an otherwise very sweet tea. It added complexity.

Potluck bday party with lots of homemade food. Sounds fantastic. I bet most of them were their favorite recipes too. Yum! Glad you had a great time :D

I used to LOVE potlucks when I was in Montreal. My roommate and I always hosted themed potlucks. So we had an Iron Chef potluck where we invited everyone by sending them a challenge video that said everything they brought had to feature lemons in some way. We also had a fantasy potluck and that was AMAZING! I made the sesame street which was literally sesame brittle that spanned the length of my table, decorated to look like a street with cupcakes that were decorated to look like the characters. My roommate made a basil-lisk from Harry Potter which was basically meat she cooked and scored to look like a section of the snake. Then people brought stuff like lembas bread or cauldron cakes. People got sooo creative though and it was amazing. One friend made vampire roses which are bacon wrapped cream cheese stuffed figs that look like roses and she put them in a vase with other flowers and people thought it was a centerpiece but it was food.

Just want to say, yay for any introvert having fun at the parties. :D I’m glad your move is going so well!

OMG – all of those parties sound so incredibly fun! I’m so sad that we lived/are living in Montreal at such different times :(

Me too! I miss Montreal! I am also an introvert but I also found it easier to go out and have fun in Montreal. It is an awesome city :)
