Tea Advent Calendar – Day 8

Oh wow…this may be my favorite tea in the advent calendar so far! This is hard to believe, but I’m not sure I’ve ever had a caramel-flavored oolong before. Now that I’ve tried it, the flavor combination seems so obvious: why wouldn’t you want to layer caramel flavor onto a tea that’s already smooth and buttery? This particular blend smells AMAZING (my mouth literally started watering when I opened the bag) and tastes almost as good as it smells. Lots of sweet burnt sugar caramel with a hint of creaminess and so delightfully silky-smooth. I’m so sad that this was limited edition, because I’d gladly go buy a whole bag!

Yum yum yum. This clearly has the same flavouring as Eggnog Poundcake, which I adore, and bonus – an oolong base! So naturally I love it. It held up to 3+ resteeps, each creamy, sweet and decadent. The aroma is deliciously custardy and caramelly, and the flavour matches pretty well (with the obvious limitations of being a flavoured water beverage).

Minus points because this tea was limited edition. :(

I’ve never had flan before; in fact, I’m pretty sure I only know what it is because if Friends.

However, I do know I like caramel – so I figured this would be worth trying. Something about the dry leaf smells weird to me; a little off putting. It’s not the caramel – but I think something to do with the custard? Reminds me of sour milk, just slightly.

Steeped tea tastes delicious though! No weird milk qualities. I don’t think it’s all that fancy though – just a very silky, smooth creamy medium bodied caramel flavour with floral undertones from the oolong base. I enjoyed it a lot; but it’d probably be improved with just a touch more tea leaf to amp up the flavour/richness OR some milk to make it smoother/creamier.

As it currently stands, it’s not enough to differentiate it from other caramel teas for me. My go to is still Dammann Frere’s Salted Caramel oolong; that’s definitely the kind of flavour this teas was competing against.

soooo many teas haha. I quite enjoyed this one. Unlike the other tea from AQ2T that is escaping my mind where the flavouring stuck around and was waaaaay too intense, this is a better balance in my mind. It’s mostly caramel cream vs being flan like, but i’m ok with that. I’m not a huge flan fan, but i do love caramel . May need to pick up some more of this one…

I tried flan for the first time and it was awesome. This smells amazing and I had high hopes. Alas, this is very good but the flavor of the hot tea no where near measures up to its decadent scent. There is a touch of caramel yum and a hint of cheesiness to reflect the flan. Plus, this has a density to it to reflect the dessert and yet each component is like a shadow of what it should be. I enjoy it but don’t need more after the package I have.

Autistic Goblin

flan flavour is okay but I don’t like the texture. Reminds me too much of jello which I hate. I was the only kid that hated jello with a passion.

VariaTEA

The flan I had was actually more like a dense cheesecake with a caramel drizzle so it was quite nice.

VariaTEA

I worried it would be like jello though because that’s what it always looked like to me

Fjellrev

That’s why I haven’t tried flan yet myself, because I’m thinking I wouldn’t like its jelly-like texture. They look so wobbly on cooking shows!

Autistic Goblin

Cheesecake can be great but depends on who is making it.
