Tea Swap Sample Sipdown of the Day! (6)

This one comes from VariaTEA!

I’m always intrigued by the concept of marshmallow genmaicha, but I’ve been disappointed by it in the past. But I do love a good genmaicha, so here we are! Plus this one has cute sprinkles.

I admit, this one is a bit disappointing too. Mostly it tastes like a plain ol’ genmaicha with a hint of bitterness from the grassy green tea. I suppose I can taste a little hint of vanilla or marshmallow if I concentrate. There is a note of artificiality to it as well.

Not for me. Oh well! It smells nice at least.

Flavors: Artificial, Bitter, Grass, Marshmallow, Sweet, Vanilla

Preparation

VariaTEA

I think this one suffers from being the last bit in my packet. All the broken bits fall to the bottom and as much as I try to make sure I shake the packet, the last bit always seems to be more bitter than the rest.

This tea is something else. I’m not sure how you managed to make a green toasted rice tea taste like a sweet marshmallow dessert but… here it is. This is really fantastic. I sipped on this one all day and it is good warm or cold.

oooh this tastes like cream and toasted marshmallow. Lots of toasted rice and a sweet green base. Heavy creamy/milk flavour, malt, toasted marshmallow, and vanilla. Absolutely superb. I don’t know if I’ve ever had a genmaicha this tasty before. It is like a sugar cookie with frosting or that marshmallow fluff they sell to put on top of ice cream. I can’t get over how thick and rich this is. Dessert in a cup!

Sipdown!

This tea was mostly pleasant, but at times would steep sour from the artificial flavours. I also ordered this way after “peeps season” so my sprinkles weren’t quite as adorable or colourful. C’est la vie. It was nice meeting you!

This is delicious. I find that the balance between genmaicha and the peeps marshmallowness to be a good one.

As someone had mentioned, there is a close similarity to 52Teas’ Marshmallow Treat Genmaicha. I cannot say which is better as I’d have to have them side by side. They are both excellent and most welcome in my cups.

That distinctive QTT flavour is here, but not so much of the flavouring as to border on overwhelm, which has been a bit of an issue for me in other QTT blends previously. I imagine that the balance between a good amount of flavour and too much flavouring is a difficult one for our master blenders. In this one, it is perfect.

I predict I will be getting through this one lickety- split.

Oh my goodness. This tea. It tastes almost exactly like the original Marshmallow Treat genmaicha from 52teas. I’m totally in love, and I only got a sample size. So tragic.

In short: creamy, fluffy, marshmallowy sweetness grounded with a toasted rice base (and hints of roasty green tea here and there).

Sil

Shhhhh don’t tell anyone!

VariaTEA

Now I’m wondering if I ordered enough. Also I don’t remember how much I ordered

Sil

uh we each got 1oz. If you want more i can email lauren and see if she can add to the order…hasn’t shipped yet

Lauren | A Quarter to Tea

I definitely can! I’ve been blending that one like crazy. I didn’t expect it to be nearly as popular as it is!

Sil

Thanks Lauren – I’ll send an email after i get a chance to talk to VariaTEA later on :)

Kittenna

Ummmmmm what are the chances I can get in on this? Haha.

Evol Ving Ness

I am pretending that I am not reading this.

CrowKettle

Um, I completely missed this one. Maybe it’s not completely absurd to place 2nd order with a company in the same month.. :/

Kittenna

I think I did that, actually… this would be my third order within a very short timespan…

CrowKettle

…and that’s all I needed to hear to feel enabled ;) Thank you

Kittenna

Hahahahaha.

Sipdown (217)!

I saved this fun, Easter-y tea for today as this officially kicks off my “Easter”. I’m not doing much this year; I worked yesterday and I work Sunday and Monday so this is my only day off. My siblings and mom are spending the weekend at my Grandma’s though and doing family stuffs – it’s out of town so I didn’t go ’cause of work. That means I get to enjoy a quiet house to myself though, which is a pro in its own right.

So this is about it for Easter themed stuff!

I have to admit, I actually kind of hate peeps. They’re just WAY too sugary and gross. This tea on the other hand? I’m actually pretty in love with it. I feel like it just plays off all the thinks I enjoy about 52Tea’s Marshmallow Treat Genmaicha, and then exaggerates them. So, the creamy, silky vanilla/marshmallow flavour? 100% present and delicious, with the perfect amount of roastiness from the rice.

So much yum, and a perfect Easter Treat for myself!

VariaTEA

This is making it harder to NOT place an aqtt order

Kittenna

Ooh, I got a sample of this in my latest order too. Haven’t tried it yet though!

Sil

gah. hard not placing an order….
