Tea of the Week for August 16, 2021!

This one took a little tweaking, but I’m happy with the result. It starts with a base of organic rooibos & lemon grass. To this combination, I added lots of chopped cherries & some vanilla bean & a touch of essence to create a dessert-y, baked custard-ish treat for your teacup & it’s naturally caffeine-free so you can enjoy this any time of day or night!

Sweet cherry notes meld with smooth vanilla custard notes. So good! It makes the perfect late-night cuppa – or a nice guilt-free dessert! It’s organic, VEGAN, gluten-free, allergen-friendly, caffeine-free & all natural!

organic ingredients: rooibos, lemongrass, cherries, calendula petals, vanilla beans & natural flavors

to brew: shake before you measure to ensure that the ingredients are well-incorporated. use 3 ½ grams of leaf to 12oz of very hot water (195°F) & steep for 10 minutes. strain & allow to cool for at least 5 minutes.

Because this is a dessert-y cuppa – I find that a little bit of sugar enhances the sweeter notes of the custard & vanilla flavors. Sugar is – by no means – necessary to add but it will enhance the dessert-y qualities of the tea.

This is just ok. I’m not a big fan of cherry in any medium so I had very low expectations of this christmas gift tea, and the tea exceeded the expectations. Its not medicinal, and I can taste the vanilla. Cherry is just not my thing so its going in the give away pile.

The 52teas blend cranberry pear clafoutis has inspired me to make a bunch of different flavors of clafoutis in the past few months – so thanks for that inspiration! I was excited to see this flavor, but I don’t think it’s as well done as the last one. The flavor is mostly just rooibos with maybe a little bit of a cherry flavor. I don’t really get any baked element from this tea. It’s an all right rooibos, just not very exciting for the price. I liked it better cold with milk, though maybe it’s not meant to be had like that.

Not always a fan of rooibos but this one has some nice flavouring including cherry, lemongrass (citrus), and vanilla. The overall effect is a a surprisingly dense feeling baked cherry custard dessert. The only thing I don’t love is that it’s a little drying. Otherwise, it’s a super nice caffeine-free option for the late evening.

Also, had no clue what clafoutis is but after googling it I think this at least tastes how it looks, for whatever that’s worth!

Edit also made a wonderful cold cup of “overnight tea”. Pleasantly creamy and fruity.

Grumble, I’m too lazy to properly add new teas to the database. Anyhow, just got this one as part of my recent shipment/sub box. Not generally a rooibos fan but it wasn’t too unpleasant here, and I did get some nice cherry flavour, without medicinal overtones. Not a favourite but drinkable. No idea what a clafoutis is…

Clafoutis is an eggy dessert crepe kind of thing. My cousin used to make plum clafoutis after she returned from studying in France.

Kittenna

Eggy? Hmm, didn’t really get that from this tea.

Plum clafoutis sounds quite tasty. Maybe I’ll hunt some down one day.

There was/is a restaurant/bakery on Queen St. across from Trinity Bellwoods called clafoutis. Don’t know if it still exists. I am guessing that most French bakeries would have it.
