Tea of the Week for December 17, 2018!

I’ve always been a fan of Moroccan Mint – but it’s never been one that I felt like I needed to recreate because there are a lot of great versions of Moroccan Mint out there – but a Chocolate Moroccan Mint? I cannot recall ever trying one – and really what pairs nicer with mint than chocolate? It’s like they were made for each other.

And this tea is a celebration of that pairing. It brings together the cool, crisp notes of spearmint, the sweet notes of chocolate and the nutty, earthy tones of the gunpowder green tea. The overall flavor of the cup is light (it is a green tea – not meant to be overtly robust) and smooth – yet despite the lightness of the cup – there’s a nice balance between the chocolate, the mint and the green tea tastes in each sip.

I used a beautiful Chinese gunpowder, spearmint leaves, cacao nibs & shells to create this delicious blend – and it’s organic, VEGAN, gluten free and allergen free (unless you’re allergic to chocolate.)

organic ingredients: green tea, spearmint leaves, cacao nibs, cacao shells & natural flavors

One of the last teas left from my 52teas order. I am a lover of all things chocolate mint, so I figured I would try this.

Smell in bag is Extremely minty, with a hint of… otherness. It doesn’t smell like chocolate. To be frank, it smells like a menthol cigg tastes. Not an auspicious start.

Brewed as per instructions. 3g/12oz, 2min/175F.

Taste is… ok it’s minty, I’ll give it that. I taste NONE of the supposedly present chocolate. None at all. Actually, this tastes pretty much like chewing gum. I’ve never had Moroccan Mint anything before so I don’t know if that is common or not. I grabbed a splenda to try and see if that would add to the flavor, but I’m afraid of upping the gum flavor too much. Now, mind you, I have no problem with spearmint in tea. But this one is ALL Spearmint, nothing else. I’m not even getting any green tea taste either. Heck, this one has the chewing gum flavor down so well, aftersip taste is just like the flavor of gum once it loses flavor. Sorry, don’t think I can recommend this one. I unfortunately bought two tasters of this, thinking I would want more of it. I’m probably going to have to find a home for the other taster, and possibly the rest of this one. This is just not for me.

It smells very minty, with only a hint of chocolate, which I find a bit discouraging. The mint smells like spearmint, which is encouraging.

It tastes strongly of spearmint, with sadly a small note of chocolate at the end of the sip. I am a fan of chocolate. This is a good Moroccan mint, but without much chocolate flavor, it disappoints me. Next time I’ll try it mixed with Chocolate Stout from TeaSource.

It’s good with the added chocolate stout (4 tsp lol). Chocolate and spearmint and just a hint of the apple sweetness.
