Tea of the Week for September 18, 2017!

If the name of this tea doesn’t give it away, my inspiration behind this blend was Autumn – or more specifically – getting summer over with already so we could start enjoying the cooler days of Autumn. Those who have read my reviews of the past are probably aware that Autumn is my favorite season — I love the colors of autumn (I’m an artist so I find myself very inspired by colors) and I also love the drop in temperature and the fact that hot tea tastes so much better when it’s cooler outside. I mean, seriously? What’s not to love about Autumn?

It’s my opinion that both honeybush and rooibos tend to be an autumnal type of herb, especially the oxidized versions of both which is what I utilized in this blend. I combined the two and added two of the fruits that I consider ‘autumnal’ fruits: pear and apple. Finally, no blend celebrating autumn would be complete with a touch of spice, amirite? So I added some cinnamon, ginger, freshly shaved nutmeg, cardamom (I crushed some of those pods to help release the flavor) and allspice (again, I crushed some of the allspice berries to release the flavor).

organic ingredients: honeybush, rooibos, ginger, cinnamon, apples, pears, cardamom, allspice, nutmeg & natural flavors

This is older!  I have been enjoying it over the years and thought it was time for a note.  The concept here was perfect for me.  The name certainly fits for me too – I wouldn’t mind if autumn was about 85% of the year!  But it’s the shortest season. I wonder where in the world the longest fall is…  At least in NY I definitely get that full autumn with beautiful trees experience, so I’m grateful for that.  Honeybush/rooibos base with apple & pear flavors full of spices including nutmeg and allspice!   It’s quite good.  Though I have always wished for more nutmeg and more pear and apple flavor.  But the concept is a great one.  It really calls up autumn. Maybe it’s time for this one to make a comeback (but I probably say that with most blends from 52Teas.)
Steep #1 // 1 1/3 teaspoons for a full mug // 20 minutes after boiling // 1 1/2 minute steep

I would expect that New England have a wonderful fall. Here it is slowly getting colourful :)

I miss the trees so much since moving to the desert!

Temperatures in Missouri aren’t cooperating yet, but the leaves are starting to! We are at peak right around Halloween.

I love autumn so much! My favorite time of year – it’s chilly but not too terribly cold, just cool enough to where a cup of hot tea is so comforting that it feeds the soul. I just released a tea called Cozy Cuppa – which isn’t really all that similar to this one – but I think it’s very autumn-ish too – and it’s my favorite tea from September. It’s a honeybush base, VERY maple-y with some cinnamon, allspice, clove and nutmeg. If you like maple – you really should try it.

AjRimmer – I feel for you missing the trees! I love trees a lot, so I don’t think I could do the desert.

gmathis & Martin – happy autumn :D

52Teas – agree completely there. And that new blend sounds amazing.

Fall all year round? I’d move there!

This blend is a masterpiece. Yesterday, I was feeling exhausted and under the weather and poor me in general, so I snuggled up with a fleecy blanket and a good mystery and this. A cure for all that ails.

I had cracked open a cardamon pod and the flavour melded nicely with the honeyed apple and c amomile. Perfect for days when naps are needed.

I was in the mood tonight for a spicy tea, but I am determined to sleep tonight. My darling neighbor is in love with his subwoofer and seems to think his neighbors are dying to hear it too. Normally he doesn’t play it loud after suppertime, but It’s been going pretty much non stop since yesterday at 11:15 am. I’ve tried twice to knock and ask him to cut it out. In the past when I’ve done that he has always apologized and turned it down. Tonight he won’t even answer the door. I am not generally the most easy going person in the world, and this is driving me ballistic. Last night I tried to sleep, but the bass trembled in my bed. Just faintly. Enough to keep me from sleeping.

I have been a miserable, sniveling mess all weekend. I know it won’t last forever. This might be the only time he plays his music so loud in the evening. And I am moving in the first week of April. But that is still two months away. I guess Monday I will call the rental office to complain. Again.

Anyway, the tea is delightful. I mean Scottish Oat scones this afternoon, and it went beautifully with them.

A special level of hell is reserved for inconsiderate neighbours. I feel your pain.

Another sample…

I grabbed this out of my tea bin at my desk this morning. The weather was wonderfully crisp and I fancied a hot cuppa. I can’t do red rooibos or honeybush straight, so I’d already decided to make a latte. Y’know, it wasn’t half bad. The name of this tea is so appropriate. It smelled divine as it was steeping, like autumn in a cup. The combination of apple and pear is wonderful, although I could do with a bit more pear if I’m being honest. The spices complement the fruit so nicely, and I’m so glad there’s no cloves to overpower the blend.

I’m tempted to purchase more. I bet it’d make an excellent eggnog latte. I’ll have to see if it’s still around the next time I place an order.

This is last week’s Tea of the Week. I’ve been drinking this all weekend and into today. Last night I brewed up a pitcher to try it iced today and this is a whole different tea when iced versus served hot. I find that some of the spices seem to pop with the chill, particularly the allspice and cardamom, which is quite nice.

When it’s hot, the apple and pear are much more discernible and this becomes more like a cider-type of drink which really wasn’t my intention when I first came up with the idea for this tea, but I enjoyed the cider-y aspect of it so much that I wasn’t complaining about this happy accident.

This is really nice iced too. It is, as I said, a different drink – the spices are more prominent with the apple and pear being more of a background note – but those flavors develop as I continue to drink. It’s definitely very autumnal and makes for a very enjoyable iced beverage but I think I do prefer it hot.
