Tea of the Week for November 14, 2016!

I just wanted a tea that was coconut-y and a little bit smoky. So that’s what I did.

Sometimes, that’s what my inspiration is all about. I wanted a coconut-y tea and I thought that the combination of a lightly smoky tea with the creamy, sweet coconut flavor would be really interesting.

I started with a blend of black teas – a rich, malty Assam; a smooth, medium-bodied Ceylon and a tippy, robust Yunnan. Then I added just a teensy bit of Lapsang Souchong to give it a hint of smoke. I wasn’t going for a heavily smoked tea this time around – I didn’t want an overpoweringly smoky presence – just enough smoke to add some contrast to the silky sweet coconut flavor. Then I added a bunch of huge shreds of coconut.

The result is a sublimely yummy cuppa that you’ve gotta try. Sure, it might be a little on the ‘usual’ side especially when compared to some of the teas that we’ve made in the past but it’s no less delicious. Sometimes – going with something a little more ordinary can lead to extraordinary results!

This tea is vegan, gluten-free and all organic!

organic ingredients: black teas, coconut and natural flavors.

AJRimmer Advent Day 2

I love coconut and I love smoky teas, so this blend sounded right up my alley…and it was! A delicious creamy coconut flavor that filled up my mouth with buttery richness and then relaxed into a subtle smokiness at the end of the sip. This was addictively delicious and definitely my favorite of the calendar so far! If 52Teas ever does a re-blend, I’m going to be all over this one.

Another reblend from last month (March 2023) and another one I was really excited for because this is the first time I’m reblending this tea. I originally blended it back in 2016 (I think it was 2016 but I’m too lazy to look up at the moment) and I loved it back then and I think I love it even more now. Not sure if it’s just nostalgia or if this blend just turned out better this time around – but it’s really good. I love the way the smoked quality of the tea base melds with the coconut to produce a kind of caramelized coconut flavor.

I made a full pot of this tea today, enough for 3 cups of tea – the first two were served straight up for my s/o and myself, and the third cup, I turned into a latte using the last of the milk cap that I had stored in the fridge – and while this is good served without any additions, it makes a fantastic latte! A definite DO TRY if you like lattes!

Ugh, this is right up my alley! I have a massive soft spot for 52Teas’ coconut-black tea blends, and this one is hitting all the right notes for me! It’s definitely coconut-forward, but not in a cloying or overwhelming way. Instead it’s a very natural coconut taste, thanks to the generous amount of big chunky flakes in there. And thennn there’s a lovely mild smokiness that adds depth and character. It does get a smidge tannic at the end, which is a sensation I don’t mind at all.

Yum!

Sipdown (310)!

Thanks VariaTea for this tea! I was curious about it, but not enough to buy it when it came out so this is a good opportunity to sate that curiosity. Turns out, I missed out by not buying it because this is actually REALLY good.

I expected the smoke notes to be a lot stronger, but this is actually pretty sweet with lots of fresh tasting coconut notes! It’s very light, all things considered and I enjoy that it reminds me of sweet, buttery coconut pastries! The smoke is present too, but it’s more of a soft, subtle smoke that creeps in from the back of the sip and slowly builds upwards – though not penetrating the top notes at all. It’s both an interesting compliment and contrast to the coconut notes…

Definitely one of the better coconut teas I’ve had in a LONG time.

ooooh. another sample from evol ving ness this one is tasty too! haha I really like the balance of smoke and coconut. I’d be worried about this going rancid if it wasn’t sipped up quickly, but this is rather tasty. It’s mostly a coconut brew, but the base is smooth and obviously slightly smokey, but not overpoweringly so :) thanks evol!

It’s about a month or so old, Sil, so maybe it still has a few days shelf life. :)

I brewed this tea and then went for a walk with the puppy and now I am drinking the tea. It’s cold but creamy and the smoke is quite strong. It is nice though quite a niche flavor that I probably wouldn’t reach for that often. I enjoy it but I will also be okay with saying goodbye when the time comes.

ruby is a year old tomorrow!

While I prefer having a large packet of tea that I like to make my way through, the advantage of having a couple of small pouches is being able to open a new one with delight and fresh anticipation. So yes!

Smoky coconut deliciousness. So nice to revisit this one.

This is day two of my next door neighbours having a ton of visitors drinking and yakking and guffawing and shrieking and so on. Not great having a bunch of drunk people next door when really what you want to be enjoying is silence and tranquility. Ugh.

Maddy Barone

oh geez. Hugs from a fellow sufferer.

Evol Ving Ness

Thanks, Maddy Barone. I know you get it.

The first time I mentioned something about the noise, they responded that I was family shaming. Gah!

mrmopar

Gee ocifer I haven’t dropped a drunk all night…. I remember the days having one like this next door..Gah!

Evol Ving Ness

This is now day three of the long weekend. Normally, here Friday is not included but that is the first full day that they started. We are now on Sunday morning. Last night, at about 11:30 pm, I banged on the wall for a good long while and they continued for a bit and then dispersed. I had really wanted to be in bed before 10, but I thought I’d try being more flexible and reasonable. Today, the loud visitors and screaming kids started up at about 10 am. I will go to the laundromat for a bit of a break from this.

This is very coconutty and creamy. Really good morning cup of tea. The smokiness is so slight, it really is more of a light counter-balance to the creaminess. The whole tea is just really smooth with no bitterness or astringency and great flavor.
