With autumn just around the corner (OK, so it’s a month off – but it’s gonna be here and I’m eagerly awaiting it!), I wanted to create an apple tea to celebrate my favorite season because no fruit says AUTUMN to me like APPLE! And no flavor says AUTUMN to me like MAPLE! So why not combine the two and create a Maple Almond Tea Cake tea? Sounds good to me!

I started with a base of organic black teas from China and India. To that I added freeze-dried apples (both Fuji and Granny Smith), freshly shaved nutmeg, allspice and a sprinkling of calendula petals for a little extra pretty. Organic, all-natural flavors brought this tea to life!

The aroma that greeted me when I opened the blending pan was that of delicious maple. Mmm! After steeping the tea, the aroma is significantly more subdued but it allows for some of those yummy apple notes to emerge. Apple and maple – is your mouth watering yet?

This tea is really delicious – apple and maple meet your taste buds right up front and about mid-sip, I start to pick up on sweet, baked cake flavors: hints of butter. Brown sugar. A touch of allspice and nutmeg. This is like autumn in a teacup and it’s sure to make you wish that autumn would hurry up and get here already!

organic ingredients: black teas, fuji apples, granny smith apples, allspice, nutmeg, calendula petals and natural flavors.

Not sure at all on the temp of this cup so I let it steep extra long. It smells so much like maple candy and the apple comes out while steeping. It’s a touch bitter but I’m sure that’s because of the long steep. It has a lot of flavor for being as old as it is. Not one I’ll miss now that it’s gone (there are so many teas!) but one I’m glad to have tried white it was around.

Update: Not sure which black tea caused it or if it’s a combination of the two (probably), but I’ve had entirely too much caffeine today. Doubling up on the water now.

Sample from VariaTEA – maple yes. smooth base. apple….sort of? There’s a slightly fruity note here that i get occasionally, but not with every sip. So it’s like a maple cake like thing. Still a great cup imo, so i rather enjoyed drinking it…but not so sure i ever really got the apple from it :)

I made this alongside Smokey Butterscotch Peach and couldn’t remember which tea was in which mug and now both just taste smokey. Oops.

Wait, there was a Maple Apple Tea Cake?

Evol Ving Ness

I don’t recall the Tea Cake part.

I’ve done that before, mixing teas up and then they taste the same. Frustrating!

This is becoming a huge favourite. Unfortunately, I am down to the last teeniest amount and then, goodbye maple apple deliciousness. Tea love is a daily lesson in non-attachment.

Embrace the philosophy of the religion that help spread drinking tea!

On it. Meditate daily. Sadly, some lessons take longer to learn.

I want to say thank you again to Anne at 52Teas for the Gingerbread Chai! I ordered while they were on vacation and she included it in my order because of the wait. That’s so kind!

Finally, finally placed an order with 52Teas. I’ve tried so many things they’ve made in swaps and destashing sales, but this is the first I’ve acquired on my own. Treat yo self. My only regret is not doing it sooner when *LiberTEAS*’s old Sweet Caramel O Mine was in stock. Miss that tea.

Now, have any of you ever opened a dessert-scented Yankee Candle and thought “Oh yeah, I could take a bite out of that”? Ok, maybe that’s just me, but this smells just like that. Sweet apple pie filling mixed with buttery, syrupy pancakes. Decadent. Now, when I say apple pie, though, I don’t mean cinnamon. It’s just delicious apple with a tiny hint of caramel. The tea is full of large chunks of dried apple that lend a very natural fruitiness. Once steeped, it actually really lives up to its dry aroma. Though I can’t say I agree with the 2.5 minute steep time. I tried it that way and again but for 4 minutes and liked the longer version.

Tasting that makes me see why their Pancake Breakfast was such a big deal. They’ve got that maple syrup flavor down. Definitely will be back to try more once I put a bigger dent in my tea stash.

I cold-brewed some of this last night – it’s really good cold-brewed! The maple and cake-y flavors emerge strongly as a cold-brew. It’s sweet and really good – maybe better as a cold-brew than hot, although I enjoyed it a lot hot too.
